|
|
My car is running great now, charged the battery and it fixed the loss of power problem.
when I park the car after driving and go somewhere and then come back, when I open the door I can smell gasoline before even getting in the car and then when I get in I can smell more. but then I get used to the smell so I can't smell it anymore. I smelled this a few days ago and didn't think much of it but I coudl smell gasoline again today.
I'm guessing it must be the rear fuel hoses with a leak. Also I got the my glass hatch to seal (with extra foam weather seal tape put on the rear hatch and that fills the gaps so its airtight. when I run the car with closed windows I still get a CO reading on my CO detector this time it was like 26 ppm, not dangerous but still it should read O, it can still give you headache.
more worried about the gas smell now , I drove with the windows open so I don't blow up. _________________ 78 924 sold.

thanks, but theres no way I'm going to remove the gas tank or cut into the metal / remove the fuel hoses, I'm too paranoid that I'm going to set a fire... _________________ 78 924 sold.

Thanks tj924... do you realise how many inane questions you just generated?
"Can I make my car good through sheer force of will? I've watched Star Wars, which has lead me to believe it's possible, but I can't find anywhere on the internet to download The Force. Does anyone have a copy they can sell me? I'd be willing to pay $399.99 but I don't really want to pay that so can you sell me it for $1.99?" _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Options:
1. Read the damn instructions & do it. You'll notice Ozzie didn't use any electrical equipment for cutting around that area & there was no need to remove the fuel tank. Empty the tank & let it air for a week or so, then do it!
2. Stop friggin' posting about your f...ing fuel/exhaust smell if you don't want to do anything about it! _________________ TJ

common khal I'm not stoned I haven't smoked weed for close to a year now....
I'm just paranoid, maybe I've been watching too many movies, you know when the cars crash and then its leaking gas and then the driver gets away just in time before the car blows up.
okay I'll read your directions, I've no idea how to drain the fuel tank, I guess I can drain it and let it air out so its safer and maybe buy a good fire extinquisher before trying this.
last time my dash caught on fire and there was a big cloud of smoke coming out of my window and and I run to my house to ge the fire extinquisher only to find it doens't even work....
this gasoline smell is a new problem, I haven't smelled strong gas smell inside the car before, the gas / CO problem are two different things. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Obviously not paranoid enough. ALL of the posts I've read on dash removal start with something like "...disconnect the battery, you don't want to start a fire...".

I'll read it later and I'll attempt this something this summer...... hopefully I won't blow up. I coudl give those directions to a mechanic, it shouldn't cost much using Ozzies method instead of taking the trans out to remove the fuel tank.
I know the fuel hoses are really expensive I asked at weissach which is the only place I found it at, I think one of the fuel hoses has a different diameter at both ends so you can't use another hose. The one hose costs 100 bucks. _________________ 78 924 sold.

I did disconnect the battery when removing my dash, I'm not stupid.
The fire started when I a bunch of wires from the back of the light switch came out and I accidently stuck one of them in the wrong spot (I stuck a ground wire into the live connnection. When I reconnected the battery it instantly caught on fire / melting plastic I disconnected the battery right away but it was too late. _________________ 78 924 sold.

I doubt its related, how can gasoline fumes cause a carbon monoxide reading? But yeah gasoline fumes will definately make you light headed / give you a headache. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Pull all the hoses first, then go down to your local auto-parts store & get them to match the diameters with sufficient lengths of standard off-the-shelf fuel hose (get more than you need) for no more than a few $ a metre. Cut them yourself & reconnect all the new hoses.
Believe me, Ozzie would NOT have gotten ANY special "Porsche" fuel hoses. _________________ TJ

the guy told me one of the hoses is 100 bucks because both ends are not the same diameter so you can't just get one from the parts store, maybe he is wrong? One ends is suppose to be larger than the other. _________________ 78 924 sold.
