ok, i have an 87' 924s non turbo that's near mint.
this is the best car i have ever had for the price....it seems to be the forgotten car..
lets see here........a 2002 chevy metro......or a porsche 924...gets the same gas mileage...same price, but it's off the charts in every other catagaory......i'll go with the 924 thank you.

i like it so much i want to sport it out a little...

how hard is it to make a non-turbo into a turbo....what all do i need?

new intake?
new exaust manifold?
new chip?
any thing else....and would it be a little easier to just buy a 924 or 944 turbo for about 5g's or so?

be gentle...this is my first post..

Seems Hausbrauen and ESC944 might be the guys to talk regarding this.

General consensus seems to be that supercharging is the best option.

You're lucky, you've effectively got the 944 engine in your 924S and a lot of work has been done on supercharging and turbocharging the 944 engine.

I don't think you'll have any problems finding a system. The price, on the other hand...

May well be cheaper to buy a 944 Turbo.

Over to the egg-spurts...

it would cost too much money. If you sell your 924S and use your money for all those upgrades to turn the 924S into a turbo you can buy a very nice 944 turbo.

I've read the 944 turbo has lots of upgrades to the engine to take the extra heat. 944turbo also has better suspension, brakes etc so you would get a turbo plus tons of other improvments.

Believe it or not Tim, some people ignore all sensible advice and will devote endless amounts of time and money into a car that by all rights they shouldn't. *irony*

If you want to turbocharge your engine, you're much better off putting a complete 944 turbo engine in your car.

Naysayers will point out that a 944 Turbo already comes with this engine but if you really like your car, if it's a nice clean well maintained example with no accidents and good running gear, then do you really want to start fresh on another car which may need work?

agreed purchase a complete 951 engine, but you will also need the wiring and brains from that same 951

Oh yeah, and don't forget to grab the transaxle, complete exhaust, wastegate, intercooler (and cut some sheetmetal for the lines to go into the nose), some wider wheels than the skinny 15x6's, the 951 radiator and fans would be a good idea. Might as well replace the clutch and rod bearings while the motor is out. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things...

In other words, bolt some 924 fenders on a 951 and have fun! Contrary to what you might think, Porsche actually did a pretty good job when they turbo'ed their n/a.

Summer must be upon us!

well thanks for the direction guys. i kind of thought it might be a little tricky.

i think i'll just have some fun with her one last summer then trade her in for a 944 turbo or 928 (i've always wanted one of those).

i like the 924 fenders on the 951 idea that almost does seem easier.

drive both a 928 and a 951 first, the 928 has a completely different feel, it is equally able to perform, if not out perform the 951, but has a completely different feel, and you dont feel the speed as much,

Here's everything it takes to make a 924S/944 turbocharged. Might make you think twice about a simple bolt on kit. Although, I don't think the "turbo" badge is mandatory, might be more fun without it

Yeah, always had a thing for 'em, ever since I saw one on the road (the only one I've ever seen on the road, mind you) going to the coast on holiday. I was probably 12 or 13 years old and both me and my mate thought it was a Lamborghini. But my mates' old man pointed out that it was a de Tomaso Pantera. Looked and sounded awesome!
