Hi,

I've got a '77 924 and am looking into an engine conversion. I'm trying to find the cheapest route possible, but that isn't very easy. I am thinking of either a V6 or V8. I have a 350 from a '71 pickup and a 302 from a late 80's car lying around but I am not sure if I should bother using these engines. It seems that some people have done the conversion with Lt1's or later carburreted V8's and Buick GN's(which seem pretty rare around here, thus $$). I don't really care if it fits under the hood or not although that would be nice. My father and I have a shop with a fair size milling machine and lathe, along with welders and all that other good stuff so fabricating motor mounts and bellhousing adapters shouldn't be too hard. I'm currently thinkning just a later carburreted V8 for simplicity sake, any suggestions on what direction I should take? I've been checking this and the hybrid site out for about a month now. Any comments are appreciated.

V8 from an Audi. Keep it in the family, bolt on a blower and have some fun Save yourself the hassle of building an adapter for the torque tube.

Just my opinion so ignore it if you think I'm a crazy mofo (which I am)

I believe the SBF is smaller in size than the SBC. The aftermarket is similar for both (lots of stuff available out there if you know what you're looking for)

Personally, I hate carbs and prefer EFI for tuning and perhaps slightly more power output across the power band. Megasquirt is a great alternative to carbs and if you can wire up a car stereo and program your VCR you should be able to install and use Megasquirt.

Yeah, one of the 3.6 litre Audi V8's can be had pretty cheap these days

But you can't buy bolt on power for a silly audi like you can a chevy! If you run a V6...you could get by with your stock rad (maybe)...otherwise plan to put a bigger one in.

you can buy power, how about turbo headers for twin turbo power ?... and if I want a silly chevy I'll get a vette or a camaro, and grow a mullet.
