|

I'm just wondering if the 924 has a knock sensor. I thought there would be no knock sensor as the 924 has no computer but I could be wrong.
the reason I'm asking is because the mechanic who worked on my car said that you don't have to worry about the timing being too advanced he said the engines have a built in knock sensor...
is this true? _________________ 78 924 sold.

Yep there's a knock sensor, but some work better than others, since the only knock sensor a 924 2 liter has is the DRIVER! _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

then what was this guy saying.... maybe he was lying to me. my timing was set to 10 btdc I thought that would be too much but he said there was no knocking when he drove it and he said theres a build in knock sensor...
I was sure the 924 didn't have a knock sensor but he confused me... The shop I went to was specialized in VWs and german cars ....
He probably just lied to me.
I've never heard an engine "knock" so I'm not sure what it would sound like or if you would hear it when driving...
I would assume a knocking engine wouldn't last very long. _________________ 78 924 sold.

In the movie "Uncle Buck" Uncle Buck's car knocks. It will sound like the engine firing.

actually, Uncle Buck's car was dieseling... knocking makes a loud rattling noise under load or acceleration. _________________ '80 931 FOR SALE

If your car is knocking you should try a higher octane grade of gasoline. Its funny, the Porsche manual says it should be at least 87 (mid grade I think), but I am pretty sure many 924 owners pay the extra cash for high grade.

The 924 does not have one stock, but you can easily retrofit a VW Scirocco knockbox. This is what the VW CIS guys do using largely the same CIS and ignition systems we have.
At some point I should figure out the differences in teh harness plugs and which wires have to be switched where, considering I have the diagrams for the 924, the '84 GTI and the 16v engine... All of which are needed for this project, at least if you use the wiring diagrams provided here. If you figure it out yourself based off the VW and 924 diagrams, you don't need the GTI diagrams.

you can also wire in the knock unit from a saab, as a standalone....
