im just going to have to open a thread because i am bored and i feel like i have to let this out
i know the old 924 na cars are low performance but its really that BAD!
i dont know about you folks but my car is so slow i cant even keep up with regular traffic! i mean, nothing is wrong with it or anything, i have a rebuilt head, replaced all the bad gaskets and i felt a little more power before. but i mean this is REALLY slow, i mean how the is it 2.0 when i drive a 1.6 its a big difference but thats probably because of the weight. the worst part is accelerating... from 1 to 2 until 3 gear everyone behind me is trying to pass me until i reach 55 mph... here is america we drive pretty fast compared to other countries with smaller roads. is this just normal for a 924 or is it just mine? anyone feeling the same way???... maybe ill feel much better

yea thats what i thought, but i shift at 4000rpm and i still cant keep up with traffic, most cars accelerate nice at 3000rpm or thats what i noticed...

when i have two people or just one fat dude, my foot is nearly floored and i still cant keep up with traffic!

Sounds slower than it should be; time to work through all the tune-up stuff listed, and I'd suspect that you may have a bad warm-up regulator...

ok i never checked the fuel pressure before,
ah man so its only me then ####!

im sure there is not any vacuum leaks i replaced most hoses

new fuel filter

new air filter

the valve timming was also done as well as the ignition timming

and the fuel and air mixture was adjusted by the smog person maybe it's off,

and no i dont think i have a warm up regulator problem, my car always starts up hot or cold.

and i have a cat of coarse i live in california!

i usually pump the regular octane fuel what about you guyz?
next i will check the compression, what should the compression be for a car like mines?

Then I don't think you understand what this part does.

To check it you will need the control pressure checked either by borrowing the gauges from someone and comparing hot and cold pressures with the charts in the Haynes or factory manuals, or have a garage that knows CIS check it.

You should also check your fuel injectors for good spray, and run some Chevron FI cleaner through it.

I run higher octane (92) fuel in my car (it asks for 91 or above) and it makes a noticeable difference in pick-up. Not sure if the NA's ask for higher octane as well (maybe it's just an S thing), but on older cars it's usually worth a try. It is a minor boost, though, unless your car has built up a lot of gunk in the fuel system from having lower grade gas running through it for too long (and then you should clean it out and use higher octane).

ok nvm i dont know what a warm up regulator is! lol
does it have to do something when my car starts up it idles really low but still runs normal until its fully warm then the idle just stays at 1000rpm??

yes i used the chevron fuel injection cleaner after i rebuilt the head and it did make a difference but its still slow..

i will ask around to see if any garage knows how to play with CIS

i dont think my car is giving me it's fullest

The block labelled "WUR" here represents the warm-up regulator (it's aka- "control pressure regulator") - http://www.flickr.com/photos/9754161@N02/739763746/in/set-72157600685476130/
This one shows the WUR internally - http://www.flickr.com/photos/9754161@N02/2299225602/in/set-72157600685476130/
In a sentence, it regulates control pressure by bleeding off fuel pressure from above the fuel distributors' control plunger to affect the air:fuel mixture, providing a richer mix when cold and leaner mix when warm.
-So it has to be functioning correctly, not only for warm-up, but also for normal running afterward.

Have you checked to make sure your throttle is wide open when the gas pedal is floored?
