Hello,

I´m really new here in the Board. I live in Gerlingen near Stuttgart inGermany.

After I have finished my 944 Turbo S

I begin a new project. A Porsche 924 Turbo build in `79. The car has actually a broken cylinder head gasket. So I decided to replace all gaskets in the engine, and I want to modify the cylinder head. Also I want to put in an intercooler.

when the car is technical top, I go to modify the interior in the way of a race car.

And may be I´m convert the car to GTS with an original Bodykit from Porsche which I have lieing here in my garage:

Looks like you have some more fun in your future (in addition to the 951). -And from the birthplace of the 931!...well, the engine at least. Post pics of the factory!

I'm very very sorry but that is not an original body kit. That's a counterfeit and I am in charge of collecting all counterfeit body kits out there so please box that up and send it to me right away so I can dispose of it safely. Of course, you'll have to pay the shipping, too.

Welcome to the board, btw.

Really? I can´t believe this. Here are so many Users registered and no one from the birth place of our Dreams on 4 wheels. So I think I have to tell this some friens of me. So you´ll get more Users from Germany/Stuttgart

I´m so sorry about his. So I think the best thing I can do ist to destroy the body kit

But I is right that one part of the body kit is not Original from Porsche. It is the front bumper. This is the only piece that is a copy made of fibreglass But I can live with it

I´m a little bit confused. What exactly means hump? When I search for this word I only get results like F******?! And you don´t want to do this with my car?!

But another thing. Where can I get an intercooler for my 924 Turbo? I want the same like an original Carrera GT. But the originals costs approx. 750,-€ and they are used

Hello European member,

Welcome to this board. And I am also from Europe.
The Intercoolers for the GT are no longer available. As for replica's, I don't think there are companies who supply them.
What you can find on this board is someone who builds IC from Mazda RX-7 intercoolers, welded the IC in the middle of the original 931 intake tube.

If I were you, go for the 951 intercooler, you can mount it in front of the car, above the radiator between the headlights. That IC is even more efficient then the original GT.

Hey, was just wondering, becuase i also want an IC fitted to my 931, how much would the power increase (in theory) and does it improve reliability of the turbo, i have a '79...

Thanks guys!

I dont think anyone has rolling roaded a car since putting an ic on them. I reckon my one has increased by about 30 bhp. It is better for the engine and reduces the likelyhood of detonation due to the decreased inlet temp. My inlet temp sits at about 10 degrees celcius when under boost which is a lot less than a standard 931. You can definately feel the difference but the lag increases slightly.

Here is a link to my instructions as to how i fitted my one.

An IC alone would only give a slight performance increase. The reason for using an IC is so you can "turn up" the boost without destroying the engine through detonation. (the cooler air charge an IC provides, reduces detonation) They don't extend the life of the turbo, they do extend the life of the engine while allowing higher boost, higher HP, etc. How much more performance you get will depend on how much the boost is turned up. It is possible to turn up the boost some without using an IC and without damaging the engine, but beyond some point, you need something to protect the engine. Factors that will lessen the tendency to detonate are - timing (retard timing as boost increases), high octane fuel, cool the air charge (IC), water injection (water is a very effective anti-detonant), fuel enrichment (the addition of more fuel as boost increases, has a cooling effect on the cylinders which prevents detonation).

[To extend the life of the turbo, use a synthetic oil. I use Mobil-1 and have 10½ years, roughly 70,000 miles on my current turbo. Also make sure the oil return from turbo to sump is not clogged. To "turn up" the boost, you can either change the wastegate spring or install an adjustable air pressure valve on the wastegate control line.]

Welcome first off,

as per the intercooler idea, seeing as howyou will be tearing the engine out and replacing all the gaskets you may consider converting the car to EFI and then you can run a air air intercooler up front,

very nice car btw, one thing about living in germany andhaving a carthat has always been driven you know that it has always been fixed properly to pass the MOT equivilent, and you know that it possibly gets its legs stretched on the autobahn every once in awhile.
