Congratulations!
Very nice one!
What more ToDo's? I would do a 5-lug conversion with Fuchs wheels, that would make this 924 extremely nice classic
But, that's just me.
EDIT: Couple of things more. Install 924 rear wing. You can put it on the current hatch (I've done it few times, you just have to drill about 20+ little holes), install rear mud guards (OEM ones) and change steering wheel to 4-spoke unit. It will make a huge difference and is still "original". _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Since this one is so original, I'll porbably do very little to it - I just wanna get her rolling like new again. However, all those suggestions give me some ideas for my other 924.
For a car that has sat in a garage for 22 years, is there anything else anyone would suggest? _________________ 924.org (no time to complete)

Drain and flush every system - cooling, oiling, particularily fueling. I'll bet the oil and fuel are rancid by now.
Plus the customary tune up.

| Be sure to replace the tires before you drive it. Even if they still have good tread, after that long they're rotten and will fly apart at speed, damaging that nice paint and body. Neat car! |

Err... there were no stock 160mph speedo's... Hope you're not getting the mileage from it. It does look like an extremely low-mileage car though. I would get rid of that big uglyl armrest and just keep 100% original.
You might want to flush the old fuel, replace with new. Then, starting near the tank, open a fuel line, let the pump run until the fuel is clean, then close the fuel line. Work you way all the way up to the injectors doing this to make sure all that old gummy fuel is out of the lines.
Looks great!

Both my 924s have 160mph speedometers - so you're suggesting they were both replaced? I'm getting milage from that and the fact that I have all the service records that stop at the same time the milage does - and I am the second owner. I'm extremely confident that its all original - heck, the dash is not cracked and it still has the original Illinois license plate on it.
I did fail to mention that draining and flushing the fuel was on the list too - but I hadn't thought of the fuel lines through - thanks for pointing that out. I figured tires were covered in my rubber generalization - I do not at all intend to run that car on those tires.

I'm *pretty* sure about the speedo's, but maybe someone else will chime in?
To my knowledge:
the 924S was the only car to use the white-numeral 160mph speedo
early-dash 944's used yellow numeral 160mph speedo's
931's (at least the '80) used green numeral 85mph speedo
'76-'79 924 used white numeral 150mph speedo (30mph increments)
I'm not 100% sure on the 80+ 924na's, but I know that some used the 85mph speedo.
Anyway, I wouldn't doubt if it's accurate, it certainly looks the part! And it was definitely a steal.
ps- fill your snailshell up with swepco. Gear oil has come a long way since whatever was put into the trans in '79

I'll look into that speedo thing - it would be interesting to know what the deal is. I think this car was originally sold to a CA dealer and then DX'ed to Wisconsin for the owner. I'll check the birthdate on it along with the VIN number to see how close it was to mine - both are 1979's with white 160mph speedos. The only difference between mine are (beside mileage, wear and tear) are the fog lights the original owner of my first car put on and the arm rest that arm rest you liek so much!
Is that OEM or total after market? I haven't seen one like that? _________________ 924.org (no time to complete)

The 160 mph speedo is original. My early 77 had one, and I got one out of a 78 or 79 to install in my 81 (which came with a 85).
The damage to the right side door sounds like pry-in damage from a break in, and the replacement glove box (or dashboard) would seem to confirm that the car suffered from an incident at one time or another.
It's hard to tell for sure from the photo, but from the color and texture mismatch, either the dashboard or the glovebox cover have been replaced. The dashboard looks like it could be the early anthracite (grayish) color (not used after 7 , or the glovebox cover is too dark, and wrong texture (from a early 944?).
Looks like the car was an amazing find in super condition. Looks like the front lower valance may be in perfect condition, which is incredibly rare. What happened to the back bumper? Hope that dirt, and not a paint chip/blemish.
Can you tell us how much you paid for it? |

All rubber should include the brake hoses.
Great find, does the motor turn by hand?
Should be a winner in survivor class.... _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

BTW, all Euro models came with 250 kph speedos until 1980 (after that, 240 kph), if that helps. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp
