This 924 Ive bought is turning out to be a bit of a headache (unsurprising considering what I paid lol).

I only discovered where the actual 'joystick' for the mirrors was the other night, but when I did it seems to affect the fuel pump when played with!!! ie with engine off (as i cant get the damn thing started anyway!) you can joggle the window controller until it makes the fuel pump buzz (like it does when the ignition is switched on).

Anyone any idea why this would be? a very bizarre problem! im wondering if its affecting fuel supply though, hence i cant start the car.

This doesn't help, but I have heard that several cars come with that 'special feature'.

I had that once upon a time with my '82 931... eventually went away. Now the pump buzzes when I key on. I suspect it was either a weak ground or, perhaps more likely, reworking the wiring for the fuse for the fuel pump (completely bypassing the stock corroded fusepanel).

From what I've heard, seems as if the 931's (and possibly late 24's) are more susceptible to bad corrosion in the fuseboxes, because of the amount of electrics they added on without properly redesigning the system, IMO. The early cars were so simple, being designed as VW's, they could've probably got away with 5 fuses (slight exaggeration here). Then they started adding power windows, power mirrors, electronics for engine controls, etc. I think the best understanding is achieved by looking at the size of the electrical system (and number of fuses) on the 944, which doesn't really have much more electrics than a late '31 or '24.

Mine does the same and I like it. I can always check to see if the fuel pump relay is working or not. It also cycles on when I turn the key.

When I first got my car, I had multiple instances of things coming on when you switch on something else. Nearly all went away when I sorted out the PO's nightmare attempt at wiring in the radio.

He seemed to pick a wire at random, connect it to where the 12 V feed should go on the radio and, when that didn't work, he then tried again with a different wire, without disconnecting the last one! He did this five times in all. I'm surprised the thing didn't go up in flames the first time anything was switched on!

lol thats a good point actually, there's a jag radio in it at the moment - doesnt work like, but its probably worth ripping it out and insulating any cables eh?!

To be honest the more i go over the car the more i realise someone really didnt know what they were doing! its got FIAT plugs in (unless this is some secret power releasing 924 secret??? lol) that had gaps of somewhere over 1mm!!! and a random selection of ignition leads.
