I was wondering what would be involved in converting a US Spec 931 engine to a 924 GTR? I realize it won't be possible to match everything but I'd be happy with only 250hp. _________________ 1986 944 | 1978 924 (FS) | 1982 931 | 1980 931 |

A stock 931 engine will do 250 ! No need for any mods but more BOOST an intercooler and of course fuel mods. A engine mangement system would make things more correct but nothing special for 250 bhp. A GTR engine is good for 500 + and for those of you who doubt that , in the 80's, Those suckers use to start from pole position in the Trans-Am series , causing that same gentolozzi character to start from behind, looking at that 24 emblem . You don't do that with less than 550 bhp. _________________ 928 gts prototype

Well the 931 I have has been sitting for 5 years so I bought it with the intention of opening the engine up.
While the engine is out of the car I would like to get the most power of it as I can. An intercooler will be put on once I get the car running. _________________ 1986 944 | 1978 924 (FS) | 1982 931 | 1980 931 |

Wayne,
Would you think the stock internals(in good order!!) would be capable of withstanding 250bhp? Reason i ask is that is the upper hp limiit of the class i want to enter, and would like to fit my new top end/camshaft/EFI onto my current block, fit an S1 turbo, and arrive at the magical figure.
The most i want is 330 BHP as this is allowable at 100kg, whereas any more power and i have to add 100kg to the car. Do the math and it takes a lot more power to get back to the 330bhp/tonne figure.

Prepare the engine correctly ( rods etc) and in stock form , the 24 will hold 250 bhp easily. One advantage for you is that your runs are short , over revving will do more damage than big boost numbers. but the mapping has to be correct, Poor wave propagation is not your friend .
I had overrevved mine once( stuck throttle , no rev limiter) a cool decade back , spun to 9000 rpm , Tons of bent valves, but she did not come apart. _________________ 928 gts prototype
