I own a porsche 924 euro from 77.

The car is back on the road again since 3 weeks ago (many problems when i bought te car ).

So i bought a radio (pioneer 3700MP), nothing special and its looks nice in the interior. But their is a problem, the previous owner has the iso-connector with duck-tape installed, butt very strange.

I have placed new speaker wire, for the front speakers and the rear speakers. But i have no switched positive line, for turning the radio on when you set your ignition key to "contact". Where can i safley place a wire to the speaker? I tried the sigaret lighter but the 12v line was also when i have the key in my hand :? A friend of my sayd you can place a wire from the voltmeter to the radio?

Because the voltmeter goes on when you turn the ignition key to "contact". Or should i prefer a other place for this wire?

Thanks in advice

Hooking to the voltmeter would work, but would only power the radio when the ignition's switched on. There's another contact available on the ignition switch that supplies 12v+ when the key is inserted, but not turned. The wiring diagrams have this contact labeled "Su". '77½-up cars included a red wire for the radio that was ultimately connected to "Su". Earlier cars apparently didn't have this red wire, but the "Su" terminal on the ignition switch is still present and available on those cars.
Long story short, to have the radio powered by key insertion as intended from the factory, connect to "Su" of the ignition switch (or to terminal "85" of the seat belt warning relay - this is also connected to "Su"). -Or tap into the red/black wire that runs from ignition switch pin "Su" to belt warning relay pin "85".

Today i was working on my car for the audio installation.

But i have now a problem :? Everything is wired up, but the radio is not turning on.

The wire that runs directly to the batterie gives 9.80V and the wire that when you turn on the ingintion key gives 11.70V when the key is turned over...

A wire problem? Ground problem? (also the ground for the radio runs directly to the batterie).

Could be a wire or ground problem, but first I'd suspect that the battery posts-connections need cleaning, second suspect weak battery or/and alternator.

I have seen some radios that wouldn't work unless the case was also grounded and some that ground the case through the antenna wire. Also, there are unused 15 (ignition on) male connections on the back of the fuse/relay panel.

I have cleaned the connection, i have now 12.60V. But i think a small ground problem.
