Yeah - me! Just picked up Kristen's pretty but inop 924S auto last night... still sitting on the trailer across the street from my house, waiting for a bath and a little finagling to get it up my driveway and into my garage without it's own power... but just wanted to say hey! First 2.5L car for me!
First on the list is of course adding that missing 3rd pedal... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Thanks! Yeah, it'll take plenty of wrenching to bring it back alive and up to my standards, but it's so clean it was hard to walk away from... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Found the original post... very nice car for $800.
Will installing the standard transmission be much more than repairing the auto? _________________ -Stu

LOL... Yeah, we've got a couple of photos at the new digs... will get those posted later...
I think I will spend as much as doing the auto repair, but I'll do more than just the swap... new stainless braided brake hoses, plus front-of-engine service (since it's a little uncertain when or how well this was last performed). Best thing I've seen yet is the Sachs clutch kit on Ebay for about $370, vs. like $500+. About the same amount of work, too - adding the clutch pedal and hydraulics shouldn't be too much incremental, really... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Further... got it washed and pushed into the garage last night... told my wife she could try on her new toy while I parked the van and trailer... I get back and she's sitting in there with the stereo cranked! Complaining that there's no cup-holder! LOL
So I pointed out that this is a German car, no cupholders, no cruise control, etc...
Don't get me wrong, she wasn't upset... just going to have to deal with that eventually... _________________ Vaughan Scott

VS:
I've got cruise control on mine, and it actually works. At least, I think it does. I hardly ever use it. Last time was two years ago on a very early morning Banzai run from home here in Orange County, CA to Scottsdale, AZ.
I kinda thought all of the 924S models have it. I'm sort of surprised that yours with the auto tranny doesn't.
Funny you mention that bit about the cup holders, though, because the first time my wife sat in my 924S she noticed their absence immediately and said, "gee, even cheap Japanese cars have cup holders in them."
The lack of cup holders doesn't seem to phase her now. When she has to go off-site for meetings, she winds up driving, because her co-workers like riding in the car. When they notice the lack of cupholders, my wife laughs at them and says that the car is meant to be driven and everyone knows you shouldn't drink and drive at the same time. She's been using the 924S as her commuter car for several years and really has no desire to drive anything else. She's become a 924 / 944 / 968 freak. We were at Costco a few weeks ago, and she sees this guy getting in to a nice 944, and she troddles on over and starts asking him about his car and they talk Porsches for a half an hour while the pizza gets cold and the ice cream melts. She is in full support of the financial commitment required to keep the thing roadworthy, since she now refers to it as "her" Porsche. On her first day of work at her current employer, her co-workers gave her the nickname "Porsche-Girl" and it stuck for many years. She says that she might just give it back to me if I buy her a 944 Turbo or a new Carrera GT. Maybe. Nothing definite.
Sometimes I think that my wife is a bigger Porschephile than I am!
That's funny, because it was "just a stupid car" until she drove it the first time. That's all it took. At the end of that first drive, she said, "They're right, you know....There is no substitute."
My brother in law works for Saleen, and almost had me convinced to part with the 924S for a Saleen Mustang. My wife lost her mind and said there was no way I was getting rid of "her" car. I pointed out that her name isn't even on the title. Well, it is now. She insisted that I add it. She also says that selling the Porsche is not an option and is non-negotiable.
She thinks the Saleen in the driveway idea is stupid, too.
"F-O-R-D.... 'Nuff said," says she.
If your wife enjoys her 924S half as much as my wife enjoys mine, she'll very likely not want to drive anything else.
And I don't think she'll miss the cupholders, either.
Blessings,
-JP |

There are fold down cupoholders that you can attach to the car but I don't like those.
The better solution IMO is the type that sits on the center console and fits between the seats on each side. _________________ -Stu

Nah, get the passenger seat cover to hold them, most of them can hold at least 2. Blonde ones usually drink out of both of them though. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"
