|
|
Yeah I screwed up when I went to change my oil I removed the oil plug and the oil rushing out completely missed the plastic catching pan and went all over the pavement alot of oil got on there. I immediately wiped as much as I could with rags then I sprayed the whole area with castrol grease cleaner and then washed it with a hose but now its still very greasy and its staining the pavement.
the bad thing is this is my mom's house and obviously she doesn't want her pavement all greasy and stained....I've already left her car in the rain while I park my car under covers to repair it....
I'm going to buy this thing called oil lift, cost like 20 bucks for like 2 litres of the stuff so I'm guessing its good.
anyone know anything else that will work? I don't have a pressure washer I know that would work.
Also where would I have to take my old oil for recycling......
Now I know that I'll never change my oil again, its way too messy and not worth it. its pretty hard to position the catching pan to catch the oil because you don't know how far it will shoot and then it comes out less and you'll have to reposition it. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Is it concrete pavement? Is it painted? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I knew I was screwed when it missed the catcher when I fixed it it was too late, like one litre went on the concrete. _________________ 78 924 sold.

So it's concrete?
Yeah, oil will stain it. No easy way to get it out, I think. It might be that what you use to remove the oil will stain the pavement anyway
But I remember my father cleaning the pavers (concrete pavers) in the carport and he used a high-pressure water cleaner (very high-pressure, like industrial-strength-cut-your-foot-off power) and caustic soda. It got most of the stains out and they were years old. Did a pretty good job, looked almost new again. But I was just a kid and he wouldn't let me near it while he was cleaning so I don't really know the process... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

yeah I can't get a pressure washer so I need some chemical at least to remove the greasy, its all slippery and greasy.
that oil lift stuff is suppose to work on oil on various surfaces but I doubt it will get it very clean.
if it does't work I'll have to buy a pressure washer and use that, cheapest ones are like 130 bucks. _________________ 78 924 sold.

I have alway used kitty litter to remove spilled oil, pour it over the spill and then grind it in and it seems to work.
You could alway try to bleach it out. _________________ 1987 924S Guards Red

I second the kitty litter, toss it on, it'll soak it up and sweep it away. You'll still have a spot on the concrete, but it'll be dry. _________________ Mike

Go to Canadian Tire and get some 'Oil Dry', or garden variety kitty liter is the same thing. Sprinkle it generously over the area and grind it in with your foot.
As for the stain...bleach/degreaser solution and a power washer.
I have an acre of concrete making up my driveway, and everywhere a Porsche has been needs to be blasted. Especially where Ideolas newly extracted engine dropped a couple quarts on the ground when we lifted it out. |

I used kitty litter and when I crushed it in the cat screamed bloody hell. She did not finish yet.
Try oven cleaner. Blot the stain first. It should come out. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

When you go to Canadian Tire to get your kitty litter take your old oil and filter with you. They will recycle it. _________________ 1980 924 turbo |

| Blanket the spill with kitty litter...the cheap generic stuff is fine...then gently pour regular gasoline on the kitty litter...remember to observe the no smoking rules when doing this. After the gasoline has evaporated, the oil is gone....like magic....Blas |

Removal is a two step process....
1) Get all the oil up you can by following the recommendations here using kitty litter, oil dry, etc.
2) Apply some type of chemical dispersement ... (household cleaner that cuts grease) and scrub in with stiff brush or broom. Then powerwash.
Even if the spot still looks dark when finished, it will fade quickly. Especially with a new oil spill.
Good luck ----
BTW, gasoline is destructive to the concrete.... _________________ -Stu

wow - all that work . . . all those suggestions . . . just spill oil over the parts you missed and you'll never know the difference!
tell mom you "sealed" the driveway to protect it from the freeze/thaw dangers that occur every winter. you should do it every couple years anyway - this one just has . . . color.
