Hey guys,

Got a quick question. Lately Ive been noticing that whenever I get a good bit of rain, I get a little leakage that seems to come through the floor on the passenger side. It happens right where the underside of the dash meets the floor on the left side on the passenger side. It can get so bad that the entire floor on that side gets soaked. Im wondering if anyone has had a simular problem, and if anyone knows how to pinpoint and fix a leak like that

Start by checking for rust underneath the battery. Also check the drains for the sunroof.

well i dont have a sunroof BUT i do remember that one time i washed the car and alot of water collected beneath the battery, and i noticed it leaking badly, to the point of dripping, then. So i will definately check that. Thanks! Also, If I do find the leak, how do i go about patching it.

hey guys.

Just wanted to let you know im still fighting with this leak. I did take out the battery and examined the tray and i dont see any rust at all. I took a few gallons of water and tried to recreate the leak by pouring the water over the battery tray and other places close to the firewall and was unable to do so. The ONLY thing i can think of is that the leak happens after at least 15 minutes of heavy rain, sometimes longer, occasionally shorter. It can become so bad that it soaks the entire floor of the passenger side. That only seems to happen after multiple days of rain. It seems to be the worst when i come outside after work when its been raining. I always park on a slight incline with the nose facing upwards. If anyone knows anything about where to start looking to patch this thing that would be very appreciated.

Rick

It's hard to explain without pictures, but there a bunch of seams there where water can start to leak through. I'm not exactly sure where it's most likely to start, but there is a seam at the firewall, a seam at the square frame spar that runs to the strut tower and the tray continues underneath the spar to the inside of the fender.

I would suggest plugging up the drain hole and filling the tray as much as possible until it's going to overflow, and then patiently checking underneath. If you find it leaking somewhere, take a drill with a wire brush attachment and a chisel, scrape away all the gunk until you're down to the metal and brush the hell out of it.

If you have a MIG welder handy, weld that damned seam. If my previous owner had taken this course of action, I'd have a watertight cabin and no rust.

There are also other possiblities, you could be dealing with water entering through the blower motor as well. Try parking on the other side of the street with the nose pointing downhill and see if it makes a difference.
