|
|
I finally got around to fixing the wiring for my centre console gauges. The clock and volt meter now work great. The oil pressure gauge just pegs at 10. I tried 2 gauges and they both pegged at 10. Does this mean the sender is shot?
Also, what do you folks do about the clock? My car gets infrequent use, will the clock run down the battery? _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

My car gets semi-infrequent use too; haven't disco'd the battery. I might this winter, though, probably would be a good idea.
As for the oil pressure gauge - this is indicative of a grounded sender wire, or the sender's shorted to ground. Start by disconnecting the wire from the sender, see if the "pegging" goes away. If not, the wire's shorted somewhere. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Have you thought about getting a manual oil press. guage.. though
I
vote you start with power to what first the guage or the sender
then grounds and make a schematic for us.. I have the same prob.
of pegging tottell the truth I removed the wires to the sender
its the only guage that doesnt work right now.. I gave up on
it I think I tried switchen wires from the guage with the power
first goin to the guage anyway mine guage wont work.. right now
..bummer thoiugh volt guage and dumbass light. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Manual gauges suck, nowhere near as good and reliable as the stock gauges. Just ask Jeremy... _________________ Vaughan Scott

speaking of which, is there any way to tell if a gauge is kaput...
I just got a 2nd hand VDO temp gauge and i'm having trouble with its operation...
12v + supply to gauge and earth connection check out as working,
On the temp gauge between the S terminal and earth gives 180 Ohms,
but I'm getting signal from the sender at around 550 Ohms though, which I would think is a little high, the sender is new too.
The gauge is a 120 C range but the sender is a 150 C range is this my issue??
I would have thought the range made little difference to the gauges operation. Is it possible that I've been given the wrong sender as the reading to earth seems high for the 323 - 18 Ohms quoted on the VDO australia website... part number matches the one I ordered and considering that the it also fits into the thread in the oil pan it's the right part number.
The 120C sender is only 50 Ohms different in its range 287 - 23 and so I would think this would make little if any difference.
Any thoughts on this one....
I've got a 150C gauge coming soon so I'll test this on it but I'd like to make sure I've got the right (and working) sender too.
