I like them, they look nice but I've heard they are pretty expensive too maintain probably when compared to how much they are worth.
also heard of them having electrical problems
you can read the reviews on carsurvey, but that might be kind of biased, could be that most people who post are the ones that generally like their cars and haven't had much trouble.

Both of my brother had new Corrados.
They each blew the G60 superchargers twice, in less than 2 years.
And, they both got rid of the cars just before the Factory Warranty ran out, when they found out that the cost of replacing the G60, and the damage that was caused each time the G60 supercharger barfed would run at least $2000 (the average cost of repair when the G60s died while under warranty was $3000) at the VW Dealer each time.
To add insult to injury the Corrado was built on the A1 chassis even after VW switched to production of all of it other A1 chassis cars to the superior A2 chassis.
Because of this the G60 supercharged 4-cylinder engined cars are selling for considerably less than the V6 engined cars because the V6 is a stronger, more reliable power plant.
As far as the styling goes... It's kinda like a 924 or 914, in that whether you like the look of the car is a personal preference. Either you like the car or you don't.
If your friend were planning on a engine swap (2.0 16V?) to a more powerful, more reliable engine, more economical engine to run, I would say look for a late G60 car with engine problems. If he wants a car that goes fairly good the way it is, with a power plant that is reliable, go for a V6. |

Yeup, only reason to buy a G60 powered VW is with the intention of ripping out the G-lader and turbocharging it instead. Unreliable POS, terrible example of VW engineering.
that being said, there are lots of G60 powered cars that are dirt cheap cause the blower is defunct, and turbocharging a VW 8v is childs play. It's already set up for forced induction, so basically all that's needed is manifold and turbo, and rerouting the oil lines to the turbo.

Not so, the Scirocco was the VW coupe built on the A1 platform. The A2 platform was introduced for the '85 model year, but they continued development on the A1 platform for hte 'Rocco instead. The Corrado, which replaced the Rocco was based entirely on the A2 platform. Confusing, I know. They continued to build the Corrado on the A2 platform when the A3 was introduced, however.

The VR6 powered cars are not much cheaper to maintain, really. Servicing that motor is not all that cheap, although it doesn't have a ticking time bomb in the form of the supercharger.
I think the styling is awesome personally, and there are some VERY nice looking Corrados out there. I wouldn't buy one, but to each their own.

If you can find a running G60, turbocharge it. If you can find a non running G60, turbocharge it. If you can find a VR6, check and make sure it's been recently serviced and isn't in need of the usual belts, headgasket, etc.
To summarize, nice cars but very high maintenance. The SLC is rumored to be one of the best handling FWD cars ever made, but it's still FWD. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

Hello
if you have a choice, take a VR6, beacause in a VR6 you have more feeling powerfull, the G60 is good motor but when you drive you havn't power feeling (it's just feeling, beacause when you lock your speed you say yourselves, "what already ?????" and you look that in final G60 is powerfull but it's fustrating ).
When i was test the G60 or VR6 i prefered VR6
The advantage of G60 is more simple for upgrade but not a crazy upgrade beacause is not unbreakable !!!
(i want tell more more more but it's not easy for me to spkeak american, if i have the time, i try to tell more one Corrado) ^^
but for this moment, i finish my removal |
