|
|
Perhaps someone can help:
Driving around, clutch in, shift, clutch now lost all tension. So with my VW instincts in place, I immediately think "clutch cable snapped." Proceeded to rev-match back into 1st gear, run a stoplight and sign or two or three, then park and have my friend tow me home... with a chain... ouch... But upon checking, the cable hasn't snapped! I can't reach any sort of linkage or pivot point at the pedal, and I know not the damndest where to take this from here. Any suggestions? 1977.5 w/audi 5spd box |

Check for fluid in the master? I don't know much of the problems on these clutches, I'm sure there will be better more in depth advice soon. _________________ Mike

this is a cable operated clutch, so checking the fluid will do nothing,
the next thing to check is to climb under (once rasied abit) and pull off the clutch inspection cover,
then have a friend push the clutch pedal in and see if you can see the clutch actuate at all,
it is possible that the arm which comes off the bellhousing has moved and is just not allowing enough throw, or it is also possible that the arms which move the throw out bearing have broken,
those are the most likely senarios. _________________ 3 928s, |

I would say the throw out arm has broken. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

On mine the arm that the cable connects too wasn't pinch-bolted tight enough and it slipped out of position (ie pulled upwards).. had to loosen it and pull it back down into place then tighten back up properly. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

Figured it out Snaked my arm behind the dash to the top of the pedal and found that the plastic piece that threads onto the cable broke... It's a stupid, "solid" plastic piece that I'd like a metal replacement for, but all in all, pretty easy, much less stressful than my VW's cable.
Thanks everyone |
