well i took out my tranny to swap it out and when i put the new one in and put that union that connects it to the drive shaft - the bolt that holds the union on the tranny (6mm allen) will not go back in. like the drive shaft has slid back? is this a sign of bearing failure? is it safe to drive on... i can not image the drive shaft will slide around too much... _________________ 1979 924 NA |

There is a groove in the splined shaft that bolt must slide through, I found that one out the hard way >.< _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

loosen the bolt on the other side of that coupling and use a screwdriver to move the coupling back and forth, to see if you can line up the groove in the TT shaft. with the bolt hole in the coupling.
as well if the shaft in the TT has slid forward too much when you installed the tranny to be able to get the coupling back onto it far enough, then that means that your pilot or needle bearing is gone or missing in your clutch and you may be needing to do a clutch job soon and have that piece replaced. _________________ 3 928s, |

| This has happened to me. Attach the coupler (along with the pinch bolt) to the driveshaft first. Then using a large screwdriver, go through the access hole in the Torque Tube (you were just there installing the pinch bolt through the coupler to the driveshaft), and pry that coupler along with the driveshaft towards the rear of the car until the coupler lines up with the input shaft of the tranny. |
