okay, finally got some information. Car would smoke and belch out the backwhen being pulled, but would not start. The compression test was the two middle cylinders were 37 and 42. Others were 90. Leakdown test indicated it was not the valves, but the rings or headgasket. This is what the mechanic was saying. I take it I need new rings and or a headgasket. Wouldn't the headgasket problems be apparent with some sort of leak? Other heads I've seen that went would have a leak accompanying it. Any thoughts on where to get these items, or any other suggestions to try? _________________ 1980 Porsche 924

I suspect that the car has more than one problem.
Even with low compression in one or two cylinders, if the fuel system and ignition system were completely functional and adjusted the engine should start (and run very poorly).
You need to take the car to a real mechanic. Towing or pushing a fuel injection car will not make it start. Can you explain to me just what advantage there is to that over using the starter motor (other than not running the battery down)?
In a old, old, car with a mechanical fuel pump or conventional breaker type ignition with a fead battery, that may have helped get the car started. On a more modern car with electronic ignition and fuel injection, that isn't going to do much. |
