think I got ripped off by an ebay member. I bought a seatbelt (right and left with mounting hardware) that was stated it was from a 914 or 924 and it said it would fit the 924.
I got the seatbelt today. first thing I noticed was one of the belts is ripped up but thats not my biggest problem.
both seatbelts do not retract on their own and worst they don't even pull out they just go back in more.
I tried turning both to get the belt to come out but they are both stuck in "locked' position"
so are they definately broken?
the celler made sure to fill the box with nice bits of styrofoam to protect the broken belts.
paid 80 bucks canadian with the 18 dollars shipping.
so i'm screwed now he might say oh sorry send the seatbelts back.
but I don't want ot pay 20 bucks to send it and 20 bucks back and risk getting another broken seatbelt.
this guy also has a million good reviews just like everyone else......
oh yeah the guy was bdstone914 _________________ 78 924 sold.

They won't retract unless mounted properly - bolt them to something firm before deciding whether or not they're hooped. Tears are bad, though... _________________ '88 944 Auto - may or may not resurrect |

but the seatbelt is also "locked" up. I can't pull it out at all as it is looked up like it would be in a crash.
any ideas on this? I don't see how mounting it would change that. _________________ 78 924 sold.

If one is torn then it is obviously no good. From what I can see the mounting bolts are in the eBay photo so should have come with the belts unless stated otherwise.
You need to get onto the guy ASAP & work something out. If he wants the belts back I wouldn't pay for shipping, that should be his problem. Give the guy a couple of weeks to make it right at no additional cost to you & if he doesn't, post -ve feedback & start down the track of getting your money back. If you used a Credit Card to pay, that will be easy. _________________ TJ

| Start on his case now. The longer you wait the less likely of a good result. If he side steps you and won't help, get him anyway you can. |

Make sure the fitting is vertical and the right way up.
They will not pull out any other way. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

really you think I should mount them and then see if they suddenly work?
I can see how mounting them would be different.
right now its locked up and it will neither retract or pull out _________________ 78 924 sold.

woops they do work. I held them the correct way and they retract and lock up.
but one of them is pretty damaged still the fabric is torn stretched hope its not the one that fits the drivers side.....
the seatbelts look exactly the same for the driver and passenger side.
however one of hte small round mounting holes is on the oposite side for one of them.
the other belt is in good condition so I really hope it fits the driver side if not can I do anything ot make it fit?
the back mounting part below is the one that is damaged I'm wondering if its is for the driver side or the passenger side. this one the fabric is stretched and has small rips everywhere. the stretching especially doesn't look god.

that is just abit frayed, I dont think it is that bad, but not the best picture,
go to a mech shop that is certified to do a vehicle inspection and ask them if they would fail the car for having a seatbelt like this. _________________ 3 928s, |

that picture doesn't really show the frayed fabric it shows the stretched area.
the one thats damaged happened to be the drivers side.
I found the difference bettween the driver and passenger side is the side where the mechanism is located and this part is much thicker and hits the side of the mounting area so the mounting part won't lie flush .
I still wanted to install the seatbelt in really nice condition that is for the passenger side so I sanded the thick end till it almost went through the plastic case but not through. now it seems to lie flush maybe a mm off on the end.
not sure if this was a smart idea the plastic case still is pushed against the edge of hte mounting area on the car and the plastic part is soft now so hopefully it break and fall into the internal parts.
doubt that would happen. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Perhaps it is just me, perhaps it is the photograph. How old are these parts? What year car did they get pulled from? If that quality is not sufficient to satisfy you with a functioning part, you need to cough up the cash for a perfect, new part from a dealer. I don't mean to be mean but you made it sound like the guy sold you a ripped broken piece of junk. It is probably over 20 years old and everything degrades with time. It will do the job. _________________ The Porsche is now my son's, my car is cooler, slower but cooler. |

^ I didn't think it was a rip off because one of them is a bit ripped up.
I tired pulling the belts before they were mounted and they wouldn't come out so I thought they were both somehow broken........
I didn't know they only pull out when mounted. _________________ 78 924 sold.
