Any comments on this year and model? I am looking at purchasing a second Porsche. Any common problems? How is the performance and the engine in general 2,479cc? I believe this engine was carried over to the 944 too.

The car runs well. The hood and right front fender need painting? No rust on the car. Interior is black with no rips. Carpet good. The dash is cracked.

What is the fair value of this car that needs some work?

What do these cars go for in great shape?

I just want to make sure I do not pay too much for the car upfront.

Worth: A few thousand - several thousand depending on what work has been done or needs doing, how much you like/ want the car and what the area has to offer in terms of other car for sale.

As for preformance, it will lack compared to an RX 8 but there will be a difference from your 924 NA.

It does have the interference issue as with the 944 but it's a step up.

To add a lightning rod I paid $7,500 for my 924. There were others in crappy shape for 4 grand, so in fact I got a deal. Others like Khal paid more and a lot of other paid a lot less. Due to availability and their markets.

Fair value depends on actual condition of the car. Somewhere between $500-$6000. Obviously the car that you are looking at is not worth $3,4,5 or $6000 since it needs paint. By needing paint on the hood and fender the car has been in an accident of some sort and is automatically not worth top dollar.

Whether it is a $500 or $3000 car depends on the condition of the car (other than the already damaged parts), and how many miles or days till the next "front of engine" service is due (must be done every 30K miles or 3 years, whichever comes first). The cost of the front of engine service (includes the replacement of the timing belt, balance shaft belt, front of engine oil seals, ball bearing equipped rollers, and pulleys, and the water pump) is going to be between $1500-$2500, depending on where you get the parts and where you get the work done (doing it yourself will cost $700-$800 in specialized tools).

A $500 car might have a running engine with the "service" due or overdue, and if overdue by much should be towed to an experienced Porsche mechanic before it can be safely driven (or take a chance on extensive engine damage). Usually $500 cars have broken engines (usually broken timing belt has bent some valves or a blown head gasket). Expect a broken belt to cost $2500-$3500 to repair. A $3000 car would be in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition and due/overdue for the front of engine service, OR a car in good mechanical and cosmetic condition with at least six months or a few thousands miles left before the front of engine service is due.

There is no safe way to do a cheap front of engine service, or skip the front of engine service. If you can't honestly spend $1000 a year on maintenance and repair (or have a $1000 a year that you can put away in a 924S "fund") don't even consider buying a 924S or a 944.

Like cars you might buy used, most used 924S cars will have issues that need to be taken care of immediately if you buy one. You should budget $1500-$2000 for immediate repairs. Again, if you can't buy the car, and have that much money available to get her into shape, you don't want one of these cars.

The 924S is very similar to what you already have, except it has power steering, more Hp (about 50 more), and is probably better assembled and quieter. If you like your 924, you will like a 924S. Still the 924S is not a dragster, so you aren't going to be doing any stoplight racing (or you won't be winning).
