I see many comments about adding a boost gauge and it is often suggested as the first thing to do when you buy a 924 Turbo (often along with a boost controller).

My car has a boost/vacuum gauge (the scale goes to 15psi... should I? ) and far as I can tell, it's factory fitted. It's VDO and is the centre gauge in the panel of three on the centre console. Oil pressure gauge is to the left and voltmeter is to the right. Did the U.S. cars not come with a boost gauge? Or did none of them come with a boost gauge and mine's a mod?

My best mate's old man's car (a '79, I'm pretty sure) had the same one in the same spot...

Khal,

It is definitely a mod as no 931's anywhere in the world were ever fitted with a boost gauge from factory.

I notice you wrote it is in the centre of the three gauges in the centre console... If your car does not have factory A/C, that is where the clock usually sits. On all 924/931 with factory A/C, the voltmeter is not fitted its place is taken by the clock.

Interesting. My car has air-con. Dunno if it's factory (pretty sure it is). I'll have to take a photo of the dash to show you.

It's just that I've seen more than one with this exact same gauge in the exact same spot (as mentioned, my mate's old man's car).

I'm pretty sure crunchie 57's car has the same one, too. And it's an '81 Turbo, like mine, IIRC.

Maybe it was a dealer option in Oz, or something?

Well, for the US, the console guage panel has the oil pressure guage on the left, the round AC control knob in the center, and the clock on the right. I installed a boost guage in the clock slot. However, my boost guage goes to 20 PSI. That is good, since I run 17 PSI.

The GT didn't come with a boost gauge either.... although a previous owner has fitted an after mkt one (a big bugger - must be 3" diam) where the centre speaker was..

centre console, going left to right, I have the battery volt meter, A/c knob, & oil pressure.

Considering replacing the the large boost gauge with a smaller boost guage & an oil temp. gauge.

oh.. & the car is RHD

Here's the pic of my boost gauge...

Looks stock to me. You can see the air-con knob below the oil pressure gauge. This is the layout of my mate's old man's car, too.

Khal, it's not stock, but thank god VDO gauges are similar in design, so they'll fit perfectly to our qute little cars

Khal, I also see that someone has removed the factory AC, or your car never came with it (doubtful as to your location)

Lizard,

I accept that the air-con knob may not be in the stock location but the car most certainly has air-con! It hasn't been "removed".

The air-con may be aftermarket fitted but it was my understanding that all Aussie-market Turbos came fully loaded, incl. air-con.

My mate's old man's car has a snowflake on the air-con knob but it's in the same spot as mine...

Looks good though, huh? Someone's spent some time on that...

it is aftermarket, there is nothing below your glovebox,
unless they did it diff on the RHD cars.

My guess is that the A/C was a dealer installed option. More PICs please.

Aw, c'mon Paul, you've been under the hood of my car!

But you might be right...

I was thinking maybe the air-con is factory but one of the PO's changed the knob and put there below the oil pressure gauge so that they could put the boost gauge in the centre there.

Then again, if memory serves and my mate's old man's one has it in the same place, then maybe it was a dealer thing at time..?

no Khal mine is up in the centre speaker grill and I put it there
both my 931 had air con and they where on the floor in the passenger footwell behind a metal plate. the switch on the brown one is in the middle , but on the white one there is a clock and the air switch is under the oil guage
