Do the 944 turbo strut top mounts fit straight onto a 1981 931? Also i have bought some 951 sway bars and i think i need to change my wishbones to the newer type that have the mounting brackets on the underside of the wishbone. Is this correct?

I do believe that the 951 strut tops would bolt into a 81 931, however the swaybar will be different, as on the 931 it was bolted to the chassis, on the 951 it was dropped down away from the chassis,

Yes, you should have the earlier style front stabilizer bar. It was changed some time in '82. Subsequent 924s, then 944s, 924Ss, 944S2s, 968 got the later style bar. The bar itself should be interchangeable between years '82-'95, but for that bar shape the mountings changed with the change from 944 to 944S2 in '85. Take a look here - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=14010

If the 951 bar/s you got came with their mounting parts, then the center drop links should be usable. To attach to your existing A-arms though, you'd need the early 944 style end parts (items 5,6,7,8 shown here - http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/smoothies931pics/detail?.dir=/34d0&.dnm=9710.jpg&.src=ph ) These end attachment parts bolt to the bottoms of the 924 steel A-arms.

My sway bars came with the same mountings as pictures. So if i get some late style 924 wishbones then they will fit?

Those pics I referenced didn't all show the same mounts. If what you got matches what's shown in this pic, - http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/smoothies931pics/detail?.dir=/34d0&.dnm=9710.jpg&.src=ph , then you should be able to use either early or late 924 A-arms with those mounts. Early 924 arms would just need to have 2 holes drilled in each for the bolts.

The inboard drop links attach via 2 side-by-side threaded holes in the frame rails which I'm pretty sure your car doesn't already have. You could drill holes where needed, then thread the bolts through the frame rail so they drop down -and use nuts to attach the drop links to the bolts. If your not familiar with this "threading" trick, you wrap some small gauge solid core steel wire around the bolt threads staying inside the groove (commercially prepared versions use some kind of spring wire very similar to guitar string) - so what you have is a length of wire with the bolt held onto the end. Bend the wire as needed to line up the bolt with the straight section of wire. You'd then find or drill another hole elsewhere in the frame large enough to pass the head of the bolt (and toothed washer if used) through. Feed the wire in through that hole and out the center link mounting hole. A glob of epoxy, PC-7, JB Weld, Loctite Weld or whatever spread on the underside of the bolt head and washer might be useful to inhibit rust as well as help to hold the bolt in place.
