I was just wondering how many of you had installed aftermarket stereos.
I plan on installing mine this coming weekend. I have a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X889 headunit and 4 6x9 speakers with an amp. I plan on turning the map pockets into speakerboxes(i have power windows), and surface mounting the 6x9's in the back seat so they will fit where the previous 4x6's were.

Just looking for suggestions or warnings,

thanx

I kept the 4x6 in place and upgraded them and cut into the 2 trunk hatch flaps for additional speakers.
They are only wood flaps with carpet and easily replaced.
The cuts into the original back seat walls you may regret.

i have a full aftermarket stereo in my 78 924. ghost head unit and 2 4x6 by the rear seats. i would reccomend goin with polk audio for the 4x6's i have one amp connected to those and another pushing 2 12'' subwoofers. the car will sound nice with very little power. i wouldnt cut the rear to put 6x9's in. just upgrade the old 4x6's

well the only reason i am willing to cut the back seat speakers to fit 6x9's is because i have 2 pairs of these.

Just remember brown is ground. I bought a 944 that had a wiring fire due to a kid wiring his stereo up wrong. He said he kept popping fuses so his dad said to wrap the fuse in foil and what ever was wrong would smoke. It cooked the entire harness in the dash and most of the engine harness.
