The fan in my car blows air, its just not cold. I bought and installed a retrofit kit to change the system to r134a. but still the air is not as cold as it should be, or cold at all for that matter. Any suggestions on what could be wrong/broken. Or at least some ways to do diagnostics on the system.
On my car i have a moon roof, but when i drive with the car open i get a really loud buffeting wind sound that gets really loud on the highway. And suggestion on air deflectors? _________________ late 1979 porche 924, red 2.0l NA 5speed snailshell

It could be a lot of things. Clogged expansion valve, bad compressor, moisture in the system, dirty evaporator, etc.
Or maybe the fact that 924s before 1987 have really marginal A/C systems.
I would take the system to a pro for a $35 checkup.
In regards to the wind noise, do you have your stock deflector in place?
Also opening the windows about an inch will lessen the noise. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

| The stock deflector is about 3 or 4 inches high and slides into the front of the sunroof as you put it back on. You can't miss it! |

Paul is spot on. We were driving with it up and the windows were up and no problem.
I folded it down, my ears popped and a real loud hum started. I put it back up real quick.
If yours is missing this will be the problem.
A/C- best to get it checked by a tech. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

If your wind deflector(long black hinged plastic) and you're cruising down the expressway you'd better watch your sunroof panel doesn't lift off and fly away. The wind deflector is the only part on the front of the sunroof that it secures too...I hope you weren't on the expressway long if you don't have one at all _________________ Mike

My sunroof stays put just fine, but i definatley do not have a piece of hinged plastic that stores in the front of the sunroof(though i can imagine how it works) Ill call up the junkyard and see if i can find a used one, but i also need to get a new sunroof gasket, the one on my car is not stock and sticks up about 1/3 inch above the car all around the seal, plus the latch above the passenger seat is broken, is it easy to fix? _________________ late 1979 porche 924, red 2.0l NA 5speed snailshell

Is it an optional extra or standard on lux cars??

hi Gram,
You can get 924's and 944's with a sunroof delete option. its not incredibly rare, but its not common either
[edit] with the trouble i had with rust in my old 924's sunroof, i was so glad to find one without a sunroof, but i know i'll miss it! _________________ '86 944 |
