Hey guys,
Went out to the car the other day and noticed a brownish fluid underneath it. When I got in i pressed the clutch down and right to the floor it went Called a friend of mine whos a mechanic and he said probably the slave cylander. Called the porsche mechanice here and he said could be the master or slave cylander, and that the repair was gonna be 500 bucks. Called the friend back and he said that if it was master the leakage would be inside the floor from the clutch pedal, which was not the case. Anyone have this happen to them before? Thanks alot ahead of time!

Happened to mine before I bought it. Turned out to be the master (? or slave or something) cylinder...

I had to replace mine in my 944S2 a few years back (same part). The part is under $100 and seems like it was $175 total including labor.
$500 is way too much, is that quote from the Porsche dealer? |

well i called a different place and he said to just do the slave cylinder was 290 bucks. I guess the 500 buck quote was assuming worst case scenario (master slave and possibly some lines) Still 290 seems high. I got another guy who will allow me to bring the part and install it for $50 bucks, but hes not certified porsche anything, although hes worked on all types of cars, and specializes in drive trains. Hes done work for me before and ive liked it. _________________ There are 10 people in the world, those who understand binary and those who dont.

You need to replace both the clutch master, and the slave cylinder. When one dies, the other is not far behind. You should be able to buy both for a total of between $100-$125 from many different aftermarket suppliers.
You don't have to go to Porsche for these parts. Just make sure that you get German made parts.
Getting the air out of the new parts is supposed to be a real bitch, so you don't want to pay twice for the same job. Replace both parts, and save another trip to the shop in six months. |

Have both rubber hoses replaced (or at least checked) at the same time. (1 runs from the reservoir to the clutch MC, the other is part metal and part rubber and runs from the clutch MC to the slave.) _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

If you're really cheap and easy, but somewhat mechanically inclined like me, both master and slave can be redone for about $50 with rebuild kits. A master kit can be had for something in the $20-$40 range and the last slave kit I bought was about $14. If you're into doing your own repairs I can point you to a past post/s that describe the procedure. Also floating around out there somewhere, I have a way to make the bleeding process way more fun and easy than usual. _________________ "..it's made in Germany.
