hi,

I need to replace my door because my father forgot to put his car on the handbrake. Now i want to buy a seccond-hand door but i've two questions

I've understand that there are two different models of locks for the porsche 924. Mine, which is a '77, has a more square and bigger lock while i saw the later ones had a more smaller lock. My question is if it is possible to convert a newer modell door by cutting the shape of the hole where the lock is placed a little bit bigger so it fits my lock.

I have a diamond silver colour and i've heard from one person that it does'nt mind which door you buy, it will always have a colour difference. is it really that bad? a little bit difference does'nt bother me. Can a little bit Commandor help?

Where are you located? Someone close by may have a door for you.

Yes, the locks are different. I'm not certain they can be interchanged though. Again, list your locale and someone may have something you can visually compare yours to before you buy.

I would call this place:

Van Zweeden
Industrial Estate Arnestein I
Elektraweg 9-11
4338 PK Middelburg
The Netherlands
Tel: +31(0)118 - 581370
Fax: +31(0)118 - 582768
Mobile : +31 (0)6 - 53185342

I've seen pictures of their business in a magazine, they have an absolutely huge selection of 924/944 parts cars, so they should have a door for you.

The location of the door latch is not the only difference, the door handles are also different in the newer cars.

You need to find a door from a 76-80.5 924. They door latch and door handle were changed part way through the 1980 model year. You need to find a door with the same door latch and door handle.

If you can't find one the same color, you are going to have to take whatever you can find and have it painted. Cars that were painted the same color the same year aren't even necessary going to be the same color now because the paint on each car will have aged, and faded differently depending on how the car has been treated and where it has lived since it was built.

Cars painted with metallic paint are always harder to color match, because the color will depend on how much thinner, how thich teh final paint coat is, how much air pressure, the ambient temperature at the time the car is painted, and the painting technique used by the painter. All of these factors will affect the metal flakes in the paint (which affect the color).
