Hello,

I was looking over my porsche 924 and noticed that it has two different vin numbers. There is a vin number on the driver's side under the window, it''s the same one that is on the title and indicates that the car is a made for the usa 924s. There is another vin number on the firewall in front of the battery on the passenger side and this vin indicates the car is a 92YS made for the rest of the world. Here are the vin numbers below.

wpozzz92zhmy53263---92YS, Europe, Rest of the World

wpoaao929hn453263----924S,USA/Canada/Japan

I'm guessing that maybe the car was a grey market car and someone added a vin to the car and did not remove the old vin. The only other guess that I can make is that the firewall on the car was replaced, but it does not seem likely.

What is a 92YS anyway?

Any help in solving this puzzle would be appreciated.

I was reading the Porsche manual which I just got and it said the vin in front of the battery is the body code plate, so I guess it's not actually a vin, it looks like it's only applies to the body of the car. More info on this would be appreciated

Have you tried the sticker on the passenger side door? Mine has one there with just the VIN and a bar code on the rail just below the striker plate, passenger side door/frame.

Try running a Carfax on both numbers.

Hello Paul

What I'm trying to figure out is what the numbers in front of the battery mean. The vin in the trunk matches the vin on the door and the title so what is the body code plate.

Thank you

I just joined but I think I can help answer your VIN question.

The Porsche chassis, or shell, were produced before they knew the destination for the car hence the firewall VIN (chassis) number. Europe does not use the VIN that we do (under the windshield). That is for US only and should match your title.
Once the destination is determined the VIN is added to comply with US regulations.
There were also some Canadian cars that had the ZZZ (RoW) designation.

Hope this helps!
