So, the 100 dollar 78 924 doesn't want to start. The car has been sitting in a driveway for at least 2 years, but the owner promises it used to run.
The spark plugs have been replaced and a gallon of fresh gas has been put in. Any ideas of what should be replaced?
From previous posts it seems like replacing the:
> Distributor Cap and Rotor
> Fuel Pump
> Fuel Pump Relay
Can anyone recommend a good source for these parts in So Cal, or would any Autozone do? Also can you recommend any other parts that might be preventing the car from starting? |

Bypass the fuel pump relay and check that the pump runs.
May be that easy. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

If you need stuff in a big hurry, Performance Products/Automotion in Van Nuys has just about whatever you need. I've found that the dealer's prices are better most of the time, however. I buy most of my parts at the internet drop-shippers like EuroWebParts.com or ThePartsBin.com, etc.
Air, spark, fuel. Any or all of those will keep the car from starting or running. Have you verified that the car is getting spark and fuel? Can you hear the fuel pump running while you crank the car? Like Ozzie says, you can jumper the fuel pump if necessary. _________________ Jon Furst |

Run the fuel pump off of a switch, simplifies matters so much. Run it off of the 15 circuit, 10 gauge wire with a 15amp inline fuse, and put a switch in the panel behind the shifter for it. The fuel pump will turn on the minute the key is in the "on" position, and stay off until the key is turned back.
It also makes your car very hard to steal. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

Well I'm not sure what the fuel pump would sound like, to tell you whether its working or not. I have a few photos of the engine bay though, but since there is no attachment feature is there anyone who could post them for me? Email me at nine44@gmail.com if you can.
Also I forgot to mention that while starting the car there are two whisps of smoke; one from near the battery and another near the heads. |
