I just got an oil change 2 months ago and I don't drive too far, but I drive daily short trips to school and work (less than 20 km).

I have been driving hard though and in stop and go traffic.

when I got the oil change 2 months ago the oil was in the middle of the min/ max and today I checked it and it was below min so I topped it up. it took about 800 ml to get it to go to the middle mark. I would need to add more than a litre to get it to go to the max.

anyways is this normal or is my engine going to need a rebuild soon?

just wondering I thought oil consumption like this usually means your engine is going to blow very soon.

I don't see any major leaks anywhere that I know of.

Mine hardly uses any oil now but the old engine used to drink the stuff (rings were shot on #4 cylinder) used to make a lovely smoke plume aswell!

Top off the oil. Fill it to the max, not the middle. Don't let it go below the min.

How many miles or km did you drive?

It's your oil, always keep it to the max. Do you see fresh spots of oil in your driveway?

NO I don't see oil on the driveway but I'm not 100% sure. I wanted to put a big piece of cardboard under the engine to see if there are any drips.

I don't drive much my trip odometer is not working so I don't know.

I did drive pretty hard recently and I drive mostly in stop and go traffic just 10-15 min drives to and back from school / school and other short trips.

How flat is your driveway?

Sounds like quite a bit of oil for 800km (20km trips, maybe 40 in 2 months), with no leaks or oil burning. My engine has done big miles and it uses virtually nothing.

Don't take it as Gospel, but didn't the owners manual quote something like 1 litre per 1000km's (maybe miles?) for oil consumption?

Your consumption doesn't sound ridiculously high to me. Sure, it might be burning some oil but she's 25+ years old, y'know...

Mine doesn't use/burn and oil but I run Mobil 1 and there's no obvious leaks, so that's not surprising.

Well, I just added a quart to my 931 today. It generally uses a quart on every third tank of gas. But, I would expect less oil consumption on an N/A.

Mine uses more oil around town than on the highway. It might use a quart between changes when most of the driving is in town. After driving over 1000 miles from here to Illinois, it didn't use any. YMMV.

So at what point should you top it off again (ie when at 1/2 way down, 1/4 way down, 3/4 down etc). At the moment I'm doing probably a couple of hundred km/week & check the oil weekly.
