Where do the front drain holes drain to? I want to blow some air through them.
Thanks, _________________ Rob

I read the 924 FAQ and found about where they were. I blew air through them. Should I also use a wire or just blow the air? _________________ Rob

You should be able to just use air. Maybe try pouring some water down them to be sure they run clear. I've heard stories about people using wire and getting a little too aggressive with it and pushing the hose off so if you use the wire, be easy with it. They're not impossible to get back on but you do have to take out some interior pieces to get it done.
How's the rest of it coming? _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

The rest:
I got the alternator shroud on, with 2 bolts. I will add the third bolt when I change the oil and filter. I got the turn signal switch working, thanks to your part. The ignition switch is still a small issue as it will start the car from under the dash with ignition switch and plug, but not when connected to cylinder lock mechanism. The car starts, but initially RPMs are low, about 400-500, then after driving a few blocks, they go to about 1200-1300 which I think is high for idling? I will have to look at some valves and such, just need to figure out which ones. Other than that, those are the things that I have fixed or need fixing. The other stuff, paint, etc. is cosmetic and can wait a while. I am trying to get a door limiter and wind deflector, but that isn’t something to worry about much now. I did paint the rear hatch metal to black as it was black in spots, chrome in other spots. I thought it was easier to paint it black than scrape to get back to chrome. I will do the same with the wheels…paint the middle of rims black. _________________ Rob

On that low idle followed by high idle on warm-up - That's exactly what you'd get if the AAV (auxiliary air valve) was stuck shut and the idle speed setting was turned up to compensate. Remove the AAV and have a look through it - it should be partially opened when cool, more opened when cold (toss it into a freezer), completely closed when hot. If you want to test the electric heating function of it, (and it does actually open as it should (but I suspect it doesn't)) after it's been cooled, attach a 12V power source at its' elect connector - it should gradually close. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. I removed the AAV and looked through it and it was about 90-95% closed in my garage that was about 85 degrees F. After putting AAV in the freezer, it was only about 80-85% closed. Then when I hooked up to the 12V, it gradually closed like it should. I checked the resistance which was 48 Ohms (Haynes said it should be about 30). I guess I need one that works. Are these better as new or used? _________________ Rob

I hope so as they are sort of expensive. Can the AAVs between P-cars be interchangeable, e.g. AAV for 944 installed in 924? Also, can't I just adjust the idle setting so when the car is warm, it is at the recommended RPMs and use the gas more when cold? Any reason why I wouldn't want to do that? _________________ Rob

Sure, that'd work - set the idle where it should be and just give it a bit of throttle during warm-up. A 944 AAV wouldn't work because as far as I know, there wasn't one. The 944 got a servo motor driven air valve that performed the equivalent warm-up function along with idle speed stabilization.
Here's some adjustment instructions for the NA style AAV - http://www.hiperformancestore.com/Ljetronic.htm
Once there, do a ctrl+F (find) on "The AAV is located" (,but without the quotes) to get you to the AAV adjustment procedure.
Again, that was the 924na AAV adjust procedure. For the 931 AAV look here - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=13357&start=24 _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Scratch part of what I said about the 944 AAV. I see the first series ('82-'85) 944 had an AAV for warmup plus a motorized valve for idle speed stabilization. It was the 924S and series 2 ('85-'91) 944 that did away with the AAV and used only the motorized air valve.
-Doesn't matter much though because you should be able to adjust the one you have. I wouldn't be too concerned about the difference in the resistance reading - you verified that it closes, so should be ok. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

I tested it and tried to adjust the valve prying open and tightening nut, but that didn't seem to help. I might have to get another one. Are these better used or new? I know new is expensive, $70-100 or so. _________________ Rob
