I'm a 24 year old college student, and I was looking for a fun summer hobby car to drive around in, I saw a grey porsche for sale, and I bought it the next day.....

Well, I've been driving my 1980 931 with 92K on it for a couple months now, managing to put over a thousand miles on it. I bought it last fall and then stored it for our wisconsin winter season. I've owned a couple 87 toyota supras, a couple early 80's vw sciroccos both 8v and 16v, and an early 80's rx-7. I would have to say this is my favorite sports car I've had to date.

I changed the oil to synthetic, changed out the transaxle fluid to synthetic, yesterday I had the radiator fluid flushed, I just ordered new plugs, wires, and an 02 sensor, since the old one is broken, and a k&n air filter and a new oil filter. I rewired the headlight cause it quit working, and did a few minor things like that. But otherwise it's been fairly trouble free.

Not to say it's perfect....
It never idles quite right, and it leaks oil, AND when it rains the removable top leaks, and water pours in from under the passanger dash board, not shure what that's all about, but it's pretty quick, can keep up with the neighbors taurus sho, oh yeah, and both rear and front wiper motors are shot, and if I let it idle too long it starts to get hot, but hey this car is still cheaper to maintain than my relationship with my girlfriend.

The car made a believer out of my porsche hating best friend, who now respects porsche but still is going to get a 1984 toyota supra, which is cool, since I think my car will beat his.

Overall, my toy likes to eat my money, which is bad since I don't have much, but I plan on keeping it for the next couple years since i've never been in a car that feels so right as this one. I've never felt so connected to the road, ever. It may not be new or faster than a minivan, but it has a certain feel and soul to it that only 924 owners could understand.

Just wanted to touch base with you guys, I read the forums ALOT to get info and see what's up in the community!

Regards,

evosix

Another Wisconsinite!

Yes it'll get better I've had my car for just over a year (barely 5 months of driving it) and am replacing the valves a second time, not to mention the other somewhat minor stuff I've replaced or fixed..

They are a blast to drive though!

You likely have 2 problems. The first is that your battery box is rusted through. The second is that the drain hole from the batter box is plugged. Fix those 2 issues and your passengers will very likely find themselves with dry feet in the rain...
