Yeah, there it is again. It was on EBay around Christmas last year as well, the exact same one. Last time I think the starting bid was set at $80,000, so I'm not sure how low the reserve really is this time.
If I could get it for $10,000 I would probably go to the effort, in the grand scheme of things that is not that much money. The only problem is that I would want to drive the hell out of it. It wouldn't have 37 kms on the odometer for long if I owned it. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

that would be a cool car if you want to collect.....
but if you actually want to drive it I would think it would be extremely expensive to maintain.....
another thing I wonder why did porsche keeep the engine on all the front engine models to 4 cyl?
a 6 cyl can make the same or more power than that 4cyl turbo/intercooled engine... and it would be much easier to maintain and have a longer life.
they could have just made a ligher 6 cyl and it would easily fit....
even the 968 has 4cyl..... I don't think there are too many other sports cars that are 4cyl. _________________ 78 924 sold.

I think a lot of it had to do with racing classes. Historically, 2 litre engines had always been a prominent class in sports car racing. Even today, aren't WRC cars 2 litre? _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

The 928 had an 8cylinder engine.
Porsche doesn't care about maintenace costs or longevity. The more parts that break and sooner they break the more money the get.
I don't think it would cost anymore than a normal car to maintain after you get it running right again. I'm sure there are alot of things on that car that need attention due to the lack of use. After that though it shouldn't be anymore expensive to maintain than a 944. _________________ 80 924

The Lotus Turbo was a 4 banger!
Some would also say "why is the 911 still only a 6 cylinder?" hmmmm?
But with that all said, back in the day (80's) most V-6's couldn't touch the power nor the fuel economy of a Porsche inline 4 engine. But it's all marketing, people just assume 6 is "better" than 4, and so on... not always true. The 968 and 944S2 3.0 4's are awesome engines! My Mom's old 88 Fiero Formula had a 6 in it, wouldn't even come close to my 944S2's performance.
All the real "Porsche" 4 bangers are very reliable if you keep up on the mantience but tended to die a very fast death if ignored (aka belts and tensioners). I have a friend with a early 1985 944 in the 250K + mileage range with no problems and runs like new.
But understand you point.
That GT is cool!!!!!!! |

Well, if anybody gets seriously interested, let me know. I can run up to Boulder in 45 minutes, and check it out for you. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |

I think I can see IC piping on the hot side, so I think the turbo is in the stock location.
I was thinking the same thing about the hoses since it looks like they start at the head, go to a stock separator and then to the air cleaner. |
