|

Need to get a new set of ignition leads & I'm quite sure that at least one of mine is too short. The shortest one (cylinder 4) is just barely able to reach & leaves no room to adjust the timing by turning the distributor.
Anyone know for sure the lengths required as I'm just going to go to the local Auto Pro shop & buy some "off-the-shelf" ($20 beats paying anywhere from $50 to $150 for a set). Ozzie said in another post that he thinks the measurements are 65, 75, 85 & 95 cm. Can someone please confirm? Should the short lead between the coil & the distributor be replaced at the same time?
Also, to put my new plugs on last year I had to unscrew a little piece off the end of the spark plugs so the lead would fit on. If I get a new set of "off-the-shelf" leads do they usually fit with that little part on or off the spark plug (I kept the little bits so they can easily be reconnected if necessary)? As it is now my Dad's timing light (ain't it amazing what you find in your Dad's shed when you actually look) won't go on to the spark plug, but certainly will if that little bit is screwed onto the end. _________________ TJ

My No 4 lead is 520mm overall, and that's plenty enough to reach, and get clipped into the little rubber holder. As to the spark plug ends, it depends what sockets you use to terminate them. Sure I'd replace the coil/distributor lead at the same time. _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)

BTW..check the lead lengths against either the old ones, or in place on the motor before you cut them.. _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)
