I went to the mechanic to set my ingition timing and fuel mixture and now my car runs like crap. When i went to drive my car I noticed the car barely accelerates and it is backfiring so I think maybe I should drive it a bit.....so I drive and aits extremely slow I had to push the gas pedal all the way down for it to accelerate the engine revs when in neutral but there are loud pops from my exhaust like firecrackers going off.......

and the car barely moved forward.......in third gear I managed to get like 50 km/h after 1 min of accelerating as fast as I could......

I had to pull over and call the mechanic and his assistance that worked on my car tells me "your car was fine when I drove it blah blah" I was really angry so I got a ride back to the shop and told the mechanic he screwed up my car and its not accelrating running very rough and backfiring or whatever....

he comes to where my car is parked adjusts something ont he distributer telling me its loose thats why its backfiring and then the car would accelerate a bit better but its still running very rough backfiring and it is still slower in accerlation and power than before.

what the hell did my mechanic do? I thought he set the wrong timing but he says its right but has to do with my distributer and he shocked himself while opening and adjusting somethin in the distributer...

I'm pretty pissed as shouldn't they test to make sure my car runs good before telling me to pick up my car and me paying them?

I thought this was a good shop. Its like a family owned shop owned by some german guys......

and this guy also says I need a new starter (as my starter juts goes "click" sometimes he says its not the selenoid but the whole starter..... and he says my alternator needs new bushing. but with his crappy ass job of doing my timing I don't want to let him touch anything else.....

now I don't think my engine run like before...... he says to bring it back on monday to properly fix the distributer and do my other repairs but I'm going to tell him I don't want the other reparis yet until he gets my damn engine running right again.....

just pisses me off that they don't notice that my car barely accelerates when they went ot park it or they just didn't car........the car was idling at like 400-200 rpm backfiring and it does not accelerate!

this is the same guy that supposidly fixed my exhaust leak problem.

my car acclerated quick before and didn't have exploding firecracker sounds coming from the exhuast....

it was pretty embarassing driving it..... with all the explosions.....

now I have to drive like this until monday and I really don't think he will make it much better on monday...

I don't know if I can replace the starter / alternator bushing myself as this guy might just break more shit at least if i break things its free.....

be firm when you talk to these guys, tell them that you want them to fix what the #### up before they charge you for MORE repairs. Once they get the car right again take it away and never go there again.

he insists that is is just something loose in the distributer and that is causing the backfiring ( I think thats what is is when you hear firecracker explosion sounds from your muffler suddenly...... haha).

he says the timing is correct hopefully he didn't screw that up too....

the car seem low on power still and doesn't rev as fast as vefore could it reall be the distributer being the cause of all this.

he made it better by adjusting something on the distributer with his screwdriver and he shocked himself...

but the car isn't back to how it was when I brought it in.....

the car is drivable now but it is still slower than before and I suddenly hear explposion pops that weren't there before.

also one of the straps holding my mufller broke off so my exhaust is swaying a bit..... that probably is causing it to sound roughter right?

but not causing the loud "pops"

while my engine is running all crappy he was telling me that my coolant hose on the bottom of the radiator is too long and close to the pavement and can come off if I hit a curb an was telling me he could replace it with a better one....... I was just pissed as that is not my poblem....

he told me I shoudl get new spark plug wires.

but the car was running good before with the old plug wires and distributer...

I don't know what to think now of him telling me my starter is bad......

yeah I know obviously, but how does he expect me to come back to him if he parks my car out barely running to drive home.....

I had to pull over and couldn't drive safely as it wouldn't acclerate and I was yelling on my celll phone all pissed off and my cell phone died too......

i was standing on the side of the road with the hood popped up and the car running like shit.

sorry about all the writting I know i'm repeating myself but I just had a really crappy day.....

Testing your car after setup is your task, and you have to do it ALWAYS BEFORE you pay money to the mechanic. If it's crap, don't pay, simple as that. Until they fix it.

haha they don't give you your keys until you pay.

plus I didn't think the mechanic would screw up my car and leave it ther for me.

I doubt he set the correct timing also......

the car has a loss of power / backfiring.

hes just going to adjust something (that is loose....) on the distributer and he says thats the problem.....

he adjusted the distributer and the car got much better but its still screwed up..... but it went from horrible to drivable but it still sounds pretty bad and doesn't rev quckly and its doesn't acclerate as quickly as before...

and backfiring.

he said one of my handy men worked on your car ...... fck .

they have tons of cars to work on so they don't do shit properly and cause more problems .....

Solution: Don't give the mechanic your only set of keys.

and is this a rip of or is this a normal charge?

part of the fee was 30 dollars to test the starter....doesn't that take just a few mins...

thats why I hate going to the mechanic... they charge you for everything and you have no idea what they are doing to your car and then you might end up with more problems than before like I do now.

I just wanted the timing checked and fuel mixture corrected in order to pass smog test.....

now I wish I hadn't gone.....

My starter just "clicks" sometimes, and in my case its a loose wire on my fusebox connectors(brand new starter). I don't let mechanics touch my car unless I'm watching their every move. If they won't let me watch, I don't let them work on my car. Period.

mechanics/ car salesmen are on the top list of people that can't be trusted......

obviously there are good honest mechanics but I doubt most are.....
