It can't last forever.

never a steady timing light since I had the car, always a very occasional slight miss.( Bad performance under under load with knock like sound. back fire on deceleration. But I may have a crack or leak at the exhaust manifold gasket

I've NEVER seen a stable timing light, so don't let that discourage you.

Check for clean grounding point, and also do the checks in the Hayes manual for the ignition module (It's in my car which is about 30Km away so I couldn't tell you what page it is on ) it's in the section that covers the ignition system

I went from a 1978 original unit to an 1980.
The car runs smoother all the way around.
I see them a lot on Ebay now going cheap.
I would not pay more than $20.00 but---
If you have an old original unit , I think you will benifit from buying a newer unit if possible.
I opened my old one up.
I'll post some pictures later so you can see what they are all about.
I think there is an upgrade after market unit for those more financially endowed.
It might be worth looking into.
One less worry.
