Hello, I've been watching this website for a while and getting answers to questions from it, but I've finally got one I need to post about.
I got my 924 from a guy who let it sit, not running, for 11 years. A lot of those plastic electrical connectors have worn out and gotten cracked and broken. Any way to fix those without buying a whole new wiring harness?
Any other hints on making sure all my electrical works would be greatly appreciated. I already bought a new ground kit for it to try to improve that, and replaced the old battery negative lead with an insulated one. _________________ 1978 924

Welcome, Jo
You can replace the plastic connectors but you have to extract the pins from them one-by-one if you don't want to replace the wiring.
Smoothie is our expert on pin extraction. See if you can get him to part with some of his invaluable advise.
Gook luck and happy P-car ownership! _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

If you really want to get into the inline harness connectors my personal solution is to replace them with 'industry standard' AC Delco (GM) WeatherPak as used on all the GM products. They used to be somewhat hard for a hobbiest to purchase; but JEGGS, Summit Racing, and others now carry the line. FOMOCO and Chrysler also have standard connectors but they are not so universal aftermarket as the GM. The GM MetriPak is also good but the WeatherPak is rated for 20 amp continuous per pin and the MetriPak something lower.
There are many other connectors which you must use original. The cold start valve, thermo time switch, etc. For these locate a 'Wenzer' dealer; probably through a local import shop. _________________ John

Second that on the Weathrpak connectors!!! Pep Boys also seems to carry them now. Go to Longacre Racing and you can ordre both the connectors AND the necessary crimping tool (at a very reasonable price)!

I had a durability test on these things last race weekend. I have two installed down below, to allow me to quick-disconnect the starter and alternator as needed for quick replacement if hot-soaked, etc. Last starter replacement I forgot to ziptie those wires back up off the header.
Smelled something burning when I finished my practice/qual session; thought it might be oil leaking again, but it was a little off in smell.
Turns out the weatherpak connector for the starter was touching the header and melted into the header wrap.
But it's such a heavy-duty connector, only some of the outer connector body was damaged! The wiring was safe, and everything still works fine!
How can you beat that?
Those other connectors - they're the same as a typical EFI fuel injector connector, and are easier to find. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Vaughan! You keep saying that! Tell me where unless I work inside a Bosch facility??
Are you running just the starter solenoid wire through a single pin WxPak and some larger connector for the starter power? And, how about the alternator output? It's a bit much, I would think for the 20 amp rating of the WxPak unless you use multiple pins?
Have it all apart now putting bearings and seals on the bottom end. Might as well take advantage of your experience putting it back together. _________________ John

John,
I buy the two pin female Bosch connectors off the shelf at the local AutoZone.
