Well me and my dad have owns a 924 for about 6 months now and we love it. Just got her going all good. I am just finishing it off tommorow with the new tires
And now my dad and i looking looking for another. He is caught inbetween a 1998 boxter or so and a 928 S or S4. Personally which one would u take and why? I was hopeing for something with alot more power. And i was thinking that the 928 with the 5.0L would be the ovious choice there right? But kinda like the convertable to on the boxters
This is one of the 928's we are looking at. I was wondering if u thought thats not a bad price, aslong as km's are reasonable. Kinda looks like it has a stick in it to so that seems to be rare

It depends on what are your (or your dads) expectations of the car. If you want luxury drive with a lot of power, go for 928, but if you're after sporty open-air exitement on twisty roads, buy Boxster. And one thing to consider: Boxster has two seats, 928 has 4, and with a lot more room than 924 rear seats. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Well said. Couldn't agree more.
I will add that the Boxster is newer in both design and build. From a purely technical, design perspective, it's the better car. It will also hold its value better in the medium term and {WARNING: Assumption, speculation ahead! } will probably be cheaper to run over a number of years... (sure, you can get into endless arguments about this part costing more than that part but the Boxsters have a reputation for reliability, from all I've read).
Me? I'd go for the Boxster... no, wait... make that the 928... um, hang on, nah... the Boxster for sure... then again, I've always wanted a 928...
BTW, I dunno about prices over there but the '95 928 GTS is the pick of 'em. Probably less expensive purchase price than a '98 Boxster? Over here, a '95 GTS is quite a bit more expensive to buy than a '98 Boxster _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

^ yeah what Khal said.
the boxster is obviously better because its newer and porsche shops know more about it and it will be more reliable and better daily driver.
but I don't like the boxster style..... it looks like something a blonde chick with high heels would drive...... no offence to anyone who has a boxster.
but I'm sure its a fun car to drive.
what about a 968 the have pretty powerful 4 cyl motors. I like the 968 coupe not the converitible. they are a bit more expensive than the 928 but cheaper thant he boxster and the styling is much nicer in my opinion.
but its your choice just drive them all and sesearch the costs..... _________________ 78 924 sold.

I've said it before, Boxsters are everywhere, even in Edmonton. Having a 928, especially in Edmonton, is a lot more unique. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Just checked out the 928 ad, that's an auto transmission, however the same place has a 5 speed 928 GT, still less than a Boxster. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

In that price range, I'd look for a 968 coupe or cab. They are lots of fun to drive, you won't look like just another poser Boxster owner (even enthusiast Boxster owners can't argue...), you'll have a much less nightmarishly complicated machine (vs. the 928), and 968's are fairly rare and have a nice subtly elegant shape- in my opinion.
Barring that, go for some test drives! That will usually make the decision much easier. Mechanically, they're both great cars. You would be fortunate to have either in your stable.

928 all the way. I would go for the 5 speed but the clutch job on that care is a nightmare and $$$$$ to have someone else do it.
That other car you mentioned is just another yuppie P-car.. IMO I hate them.
As long as the service records are up to date you will fall in love with the Shark (928) _________________ 87' 924s (944 Wide Body) Project

Well, I have always wanted a 928 S4, but if I had to chose, it would be the Boxter S, hands down. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |

Go for the 928, the laterthe better if more HP is desired. A 5 speed is a plus since only 20% of the 928's were manuals. In this area there is a glut of Boxters due to people not taking the buyout option on their expired lease agreements. IIRC the buyout option is about 33% higher than the current market sell price. Maintenance on the Boxter is also costly. An acquaintence recently took hers in for a 30K checkup/oil change and the bill was $500. She then promptly took it out and wrecked it.
Changing the clutch on the 928 is a piece of cake compared to the 924. A slip joint was incorporated so the torqe tube and tansmission don't have to be removed. Go for a 5 speed if one is available.
BTW if you have access to it, the July 1997 Panorama magazine has an excellent article on buying a 928.

If you get a bosxter, make sure you get an s. I drove an early (97 or 98 maybe, it was before they switched the engine) one, and it was not much fun. I would go with a 928s4 HANDS DOWN. Unless of course you are talking about a new boxster s. Then it would become a hard decision. _________________ 1987 951--Not Stock
