Well, boys, Gracie's 931 has suffered massive internal failure and now sits forlornly in a tow-truck driver's yard. We haven't yet got it back here for triage, but judging by her description of the symptoms, things are bad.
But Gracie's got balls, lemme tell ya. When I asked her if she wanted to part the car out her response was immediate: "Are you kidding me? I'm gonna rebuild that motor and get that car back on the road if it takes me the next ten years!" Trust me, she'll do it, too. She's got the Porshce bug really bad..as bad as me, thankfully.
On a good note, my 944 is back on the road after some oil cooler/OPRV/timing belt/fuel pump/water pump R&Rs. And yesterday I picked up an engine hoist...
Didn't someone here predict that we'd be spending another $2,000 to $3,000 on the 931 over the next year? _________________ '88 944 Auto - may or may not resurrect |

so you talk with the car......
3000 in repairs..... sounds like it would be easier to get another 931.. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Tim, I think Gracie is a real person not a car..?
Great shame about the car, best of luck with fixing it...
My 2 pence (or cents): not always easy to just buy another when you become attached to the cars. You expect a bit of time and work with them, and if everyone just deserted them when they needed some serious input there would be very few 924s in 5 years. _________________ 1983 - 924 (185K miles) - not mint

Sorry to hear about Gracie's bad luck, that's too bad about her car.
What happened? Did the timing belt let go? If so you may get away with just a head rebuild.
I completely agree on fixing as opposed to parting. Trying to find another good example that is even reasonably close to us is very difficult. I also think parting would be a pain as there aren't that many people close by who will come to pick up the larger parts, so you have to ship everything which would be a hassle. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Eh? Of course I talk to my cars! I thought we all did... Gracie's my soon-to-be wife (this Saturday - yikes!) and the coolest girl I've ever known. Her car is another story. We think a rebuild would be worth the investment - working on the car has been a great thing for us to do together. Plus, these things are rare and seeing them junked just breaks my heart.
Thanks for the commiserations.
Chrenan - nope, the timing belt didn't break. According to her anyway. She said she shut the car down as soon as things got strange and the first thing she checked was the TB. Said it was okay. In a way that's too bad, 'cause given a choice between an engine build and a head build, guess what I'd choose?[/quote] _________________ '88 944 Auto - may or may not resurrect |
