hey everyone, so after buying a new alternator belt, and putting it on and tensioning it, three times, it still squeals and heats up to the point where you cant touch it. i dont know if thats normal or not, but my fingers blister almost instantly after touching it, and thats after 2 minutes of driving. i dunno what the pbolem is, maybe worn alternator bushings?
any suggestions?

oh yeah, sorry if this has been covered before, i did some searching but there wasnt much info that i could find.

Something may be seized or on its way out.
Why did you replace it? Did it break?
Loosen the belt and see if everything will turn by hand.

Cast your eye over the pulleys and belt.
Does all the pulleys look parallell?
If the alternator bushes are worn the unit will look tilted towards the water pump and the belt will not look straight.
No amount of tensioning will correct this.
If the alternator has been put on too far forward (via a different mount) the belt will look wrong as well.

hmm....the alt. looks straight, and the bar that i put up against it seemed straight. i had my dad help swing it out farther, so hopefully it will hold like that, everything turns by hand, so hopefully thats not the problem. the original belt, or one before the on i put on, was on its way out, it had a problem holding, and i decided replacing it was the easiest and probably only option.

what shape do the rubber mounting bushings appear
to be in. they tear and get chunks tore out then sit
in the metal cup weird cause they cant take up the space
and you cant take up the slack. they ll go out of alignment next.

Hey smoothie can Nappa get alt mount bushings.

Also check the water pump and alternator turns freely, the bearings may be on the way out.
