Hey guys,

Got a question about paint care. This 924s i got has a paint job that is obviously redone and mediocre. It had white "clouds" all over it where i was told the clear coat was worn. Well, I had a guy do a full buff with a power buffer and he used 3 different types of chemicles. When he was done, the car was a beautiful, glossy red..much better than the hazy and cloudy orange it was . Theres one problem though. I was in a hurry and took the care imidiately after it was done, and when i got home (it began to rain while i drove) the front fenders had what looked like white drips, simular to the white that was there b4 the care was buffed, and there were also small white blotches on the top and on remote spots around the car. Could this be because I took the car before the wax had finished drying? I really have no idea how buffing/waxing works, but im curious to know if this is the falt of the paint not holding the wax right or me driving it in the rain right after I had that done. Let me know guys

Give the car a wash with a soft cloth and see if it comes off. It may be residue.

Here's what he would have used.....The first application would have been an abrasive compound (it feels like tiny sand particles). It acts as a sanding agent and will clean the paint as it is machined with a buffer....it is used with lots of water to help lubricate the surface.

This compound is rinsed off and at this stage you would see the paint is actually dull...as if you have sanded it...(because you have) Now you move on the a finishing compound on the clean surface. This step uses a different buffing pad and an extra fine coumpound and is done with no water. Machine applied and cloth wiped once completed.

Move on the the last step...which is the wax....this is your protection/sealer.

It is expensive to get set-up with the proper buff pads/compounds and buffing machine to do this...I would estimate around 250.00 for quality products.

And add the price of a new paint job if you try using a buffer and rubbing compound without some help from someone who knows what they are doing.

yea that sounds about right as far as the process he used. But I only got charged about 90 bucks so maybe i came out good Anyways, I friend of mine looked at the car and told me that it just looks like a worn out clear coat. Because the clear coat is worn, it wont hold the buff/wax job very well and can easily fade again. So i think i will be looking into a new paint job.
