just purchased a 1981 924, and when i turn the key on the ignition the fuel pump comes on and stays on. Is this normal.
A friend said that this can burn them out.

No- not normal.
I think the fuel pump relay has been bypassed or an electrical fault. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Yes, mine only runs from cranking on. And IMO it won't burn out if you have sufficient fuel in the tank..it's lubed and therefore cooled by the petrol. _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)

None of our cars would have the dreaded hot restart problem if the fuel pump ran whenever the ignition was on!
The only downside of leaving this way is FIRE!!!!!
The stock setup shuts down the pump anytime it discovers the motor is not running. This is important following an accident or a sudden fuel line failure. |
