| There is a tube about a 1/2" in diamater that goes to the exaust from what looks similar to an EGR on a chevy. I am assuming it is for emissions. Would anything be gained by removing it? |

| It's unlikely to be operational anymore, and it really doesn't hurt performance, so I recommend you leave it alone. |

It doesn't hurt performance, infact your car probably gets 1-2mpg if it is working correctly.
I have noticed that the egr filter (which is bolted to the block, and is where the tube connects on the left side of the engine) tend to develop a hole on the side, towards the engine block.
You should check fron under the car with a mirror to make sure that yours has not rusted out. The pipe also has a tendency to crack from fatique near the end. But a replacement pipe was less than $15 the last time I replaced one.
Note, if you State has a visual test of operational emissions equipment, it will fail if the egr filter and pipe are removed, or if they are cracked, or holed. |
