All it does is provide a path to ground (the brown wire) for the white wires.

Ok, so to clarify...

White wire = communication from TPS to computer
White/Black = communication from computer to TPS
Brown = Ground wire

Thanks--Please verify that these are correct...

Both white wires come from the computer. The TPS changes their state, grounded or not grounded based on the position of the throttle.

So there are 3 states reported to the computer:

closed throttle
full throttle
anything in between

so i am correct in my assumption? because i need to attach a component that needs to recieve the signal from the tps to the computer. Which wire sends the mesurment of closed, wot or in between? white or white with black stripe?

It's raining out so I don't want to go look at which color does what.

The brown wire (the center pole on the 3 pole connector goes to ground).

One of the white wires signals full throttle the other closed throttle.

So this is what the computer sees.

Closed throttle. the closed throttle white wire is grounded, the full throttle wire is open (no path to ground).

In between, both white wires are open (no path to ground)

Full throttle, closed throttle wire is open, full throttle wire is grounded.

So to figure out which white wire is which, pull the connector off of the TPS and put a ohm meter between the center post of the switch and one of the posts on either side of it. Assuming the throttle is closed, the closed throttle white wire attaches to the post that is grounded (zero ohms)
