|
|
My car is a 78 and doesn't have air conditioning so it really sucks driving in the spring and summer....
its not even hot outside like 18 degrees and i"m boiling and sweating like a pig in my car and just want to get out cus its so hot even with the windows down.
my interior is also black.
so I can't really drive much more than 30 mins and that even sucks.
is it possible to install a air conditioning unit from another 924 easily or does it require a lot of work , welding etc.
also you would have to drive the dash to install the air conditioning knob right and .
sounds like a lot of work.
is there such think as a air conditioner that plugs into the cig lighter.....
haha sounds funny but i'm sweating in there. _________________ 78 924 sold.

it can be done, but its no easy task... youd need toinstal a condenser, evaporator, compressor, ducting, lines, electrical, fan, etc...
the best option for this is to find and aftermarket "kit" that are a bit simpler than a factory a/c set up would be. even then , its a fairly complex installation, and expensive..you could probably find another 924 with a/c for the price of the "upgrade" alone..
get a 12 volt fan and open the windows.... _________________ Eric

i agree with 924guy, it would be cheaper and a better use of your time to just buy another 924 with a/c. i tried working on my saab 900 turbo to modify its a/c and that was a pain in the posterior enough that i never want to do it again.

there are fans you can buy at places like walmart where you hook them to your dash and they supposedly work pretty well. _________________ '81 924 n/a |

I have complete a/c parts from '77 924, thought about installing them someday, but since this job is real PITA, I'm not so sure anymore _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

yeah didn't know it was that hard thought it was just something that would take a few hours and bolt on.
guess I'll get the biggest fan that plugs into the cig lighter, just hope the 12 v pulg works as the cig lighter doesn't work (doesn't lock in)but I think the lighter is what is broken. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Timbo, here's a new old stock dealer A/C system on eBay for a decent price. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

The ac system that is on eBay right now is the Interior Portion of an aftermarket ac system which could be dealer installed. The included parts are the evaporator, the ac controls, and the under dash vents. No compressor, mounting for the compressor, hoses, or installation instructions.
From time to time, a Genuine VWoA dealer install ac system is sold on eBay. The instructions to install the factory designed dealer ac system should be in the Factory Wrokshop Manual. There is a set of Factory Workshop manuals that looks pretty good on eBay right now, for an Opening Bid Price of only $49.99. Includes a earlier edition of the Haynes Manual, and a Chiltons as well as some aftermarket supplier parts catalogs. |

I always use a 2-40 air conditioning system in my older cars which didn't come stock with AC. To install it, you roll down 2 windows, and go 40 miles per hour!
