At the back of the A-arm type bracket on the retractable headlights, there's an adjustable bolt for setting a rough aim on the lights. This should have a rubber bumper on it but mine have long gone. Any idea what they look like..? Someone suggested slipping a piece of plastic hose over the bolt. _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)

That bolt is more like a "stabilizer" designed to dampen vibration once the headlight assembly is at the correct position.
It is not meant to aim the headlight, or locate the headlight. If you attempt to use the bolt to force the headmotor to stop at what could be the wrong place, you could damage the electricals.
The headlight open position is supposed to be determined by headlight motor (which has built-in stop positions), and the linkage. The original rubber part looks like a cap. Here in the U.S. you could probably find a similar replacement at a hardware store in the hardware (nuts and bolts) department where you would find caps and bumpers.
The way that the stabilizer bolt is supposed to be used is to activate teh headlights to open them, then adjust the bolt (with rubber cap) down until it BARELY makes contact. It should not BANG, when the headlights are opened or closed.
The same part is used on other Porsche models. You should be able to get an exact replacement still from your authorized Porsche Dealer. |
