hey everyone, since its that time of the year..car pull apart time..i thought i would take some pics and show everyone how the project is going. if anyone has any suggestions of what i should do with nearly all of the interior of the car out, they would be well accepted.

Do you mean host pictures for you? If so, I will.
As for the interior, do you want suggestion on what to do with the interior? |

1st pic- when i pulled up the carpeting, it looked as though the sound deadener underneath was dry, but after sitting in the open for a day, the water started to leak out. so i pulled that out and thats what im left with. i hanged the deadner out to dry as it all came out in full pieces, and im poor so i cant afford any more
2nd- picture of the cabin overall, i am going to attempt to do the sloppy gear shift repair...doesnt look too complicated, but then again anything that i do ends up being a pain the arse. there were a couple of dangling wires when i pulled the console off, there will be more pics of that to come.
3rd- near overall side shot of the car, ive been looking at other 924's on here, and there arent many with a pinstripe. any ideas? or am i just overlooking that?
for the floor, can anyone tell me anything about it? should i put a coat of rust preventitive over it? or am i safe just putting the stuff back in. _________________ '81 924 n/a |

I would clean the floor up and if I found rust or a weak spot, I would correct that. Prime it or what ever you do to floors and then seal it.
Are you buying any interior panels or are you using your old ones? Are they in good shape?
I'm not sure what you're looking to do. |

im using the same panels, they're in good condition. im looking for any ideas on what to do
1. preventitive wise, so i dont have any problems in the future that warrant taking the interior apart again,
2. making things work better
3. making things look nice

so i found a bunch of carpet padding in my basement, used for under interior carpets. so what would the feasiblity be that i could use this to help with deadening the sound in the car? my idea is to put it where there is carpet, with the pre-existing stuff to.

i like the pinstripes, its upsetting though when people lean on your car in the parking lot and rub them off! so ive gotten the padding laid out and glued in. the carpeting is getting one last vacuuming before it goes in, and then the wiring will be done for the speakers. the PO did a good job of not changing much, but also did a good job of not doing anything but repairing the engine as there are mouse droppings all behind the back panels near the speakers, and i also found a mouse nest below the shifter!
Dak- i am jealous of the red, i hope to earn enough money this summer to do my camry out like that, as it looks like crap right now. i want to have blue because it is such a subtle color, not that burgandy i have now. _________________ '81 924 n/a |

This blue color I've only seen in one other picture off of that zip file at the 924.org downloads section. I dig it, it probably doesn't attract the attention of the patrol cars as much either . I really wanted the white or gaurds red. But in a few years if I'm repainting I won't be changing the color. Heh I've got that dash cap on mine too.
Back on topic...While you've got the carpet out, I'd check over the grounds on the rings behind the fuse boxes way up there. I did mine with the whole dash out, but without carpet might make it easier. When you pull stuff out like the console. Wipe it down on the sides even where it won't be seen, that little bit of brown dust on black shows through cracks, vents too. Replace light bulbs in the console stuff that need it now too. _________________ Mike

As for the wet floor, you need to pinpoint the source of the water leaks. The leaks are coming from up top. I had some rust issues with the floor pan on my 931 (driver`s side) that were easily repaired by using a grinder, por 15, and JB Weld.
The 2 leaks I found were:
Battery box (once again repaired using above method) had a few small small spots at the seams. (This JB Weld is some great stuff!)
Drain tube on driver`s side. The tube acutally runs through the inside of the car above your feet. The tube had a hole in it with the metal protruding out. So my theory is that the tube was plugged at one time, and someone tried to clear it out using a tool take poked a hole right through it. Used JB Weld to repair.
Water tested last night, and again this morning with a bucket of water on the windshield...NO MORE LEAKS! The real test will be with the water hose once I get the car out of the garage...
