|
|
Well on my new 924 I noticed the brake lights do not work. Both signals work, both reverse lamps work, and my drivers side tail light works. I've checked/changed the brake bulbs, I've checked/cleaned up the connections and the rear ground and I've got nothing. Trying to pass a spark from the positive to the light chassis plate got nothing either. Is there something that I'm missing here? Also my side marker lights on the right side aren't working. I changed the front bulb, it worked, changed the rear bulb, it worked, now neither of them work again...this is odd. Any ideas on what else to try? _________________ Mike

Fuse six never blew, even when I did that, I figured since it happened when I accidently did it on the side marker lights that it would do it if anything was working on the brake lights...didn't blow it either, i've replaced that fuse already as well. This is getting to be a bigger problem than "changing out the bulbs and replacing a few fuses". _________________ Mike

I know this sounds weird but you have someone watching the lights or operating the pedal, correct?
As you don't know how to operate a multimeter I can't help. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Are you implying that he's in the car pressing the brake pedal and getting out to see if the brake lights are on? Because if you are.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! |

Well I've actually got a thing down where I can see them and press the pedal, I've just taken them out of the housing for the tail lights, turned them up so the brake lamp area is visible above the back seat as I press the pedal.

Today I bought a multimeter that actually works...unlike the one I bought yesterday that didn't after a batter and a new fuse...figures, I get 4 hours of free time and I can't make any progress. Any other suggestions? Things to look for, I should have an hour or two tomorow to mess with the lights. _________________ Mike

Pull fuse 6.
Check the lampholder for the lights has a good earth.(0 ohms to body)
Check that the wiring is good from the brake switch to the +ve terminal at the brake light. (0 ohms one end to other)
Check the switch/es operate when pedal is depressed. (0 ohms across switch)
Refit fuse 6
Check that you have 12 volts at the brake switch/es.(12 volt dc - one terminal to body.)
If that is all there they should work. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Ah I see Vince, perhaps that's why they don't work now, I'm sure the previous owner didn't drive around with no brake lamps for 4 years. I'll check that switch out and test some voltages today. Thanks guys. _________________ Mike

Well, this
might be part of my problem. I'm guessing these wires aren't suppoused to be cut and hanging there? I tested the ground, wiring from the pole thats connected, and the switch itself and they all checked out good. Any idea on what goes to what, or why in god's name someone did this? _________________ Mike

Any ideas? Pictures to compare to? I'm about to give up and take it to an auto electrician so he can be pissed at it. _________________ Mike

OK, so after a bit more searching around, I found some older threads that told about this problem. But none of them had a problem with the wiring itself, my switch is just fine. I have no clue how to rewire this mess to functioning. I've already tried bridging the loose wire from the switch to that one you can see just a bit of in the back of the picture with no luck. I found my emergency brake wire wasn't connected, so I snapped that back on hoping it would do the trick like it did for someone in an older thread with no luck, I didn't expect any since I've got dangling wires. Any suggestions? Has someone else dealt with this on a rewire, or has anyone got a good picture of where these wires need to go? _________________ Mike

Grounds are apparently forever a problem with these cars.
| Lizard wrote: | | as for the ground, well there is a 6/7 pin plug that each rear taillight assembly plugs into the main harness with, you will find a BROWN wire coming off of here, FOLLOW the brown wire to where it connects to the chasis, |
