Well I just figured I would give an update on my 928S
I got the engine installed yesterday, and installed the intake manifold back on after the powdercoating was completed,
Here are the intake pieces after the powdercoating all pieces are done wrinkle black,
just after the engine got in
just before the fuel rails went in,
for those of you that think a 931 is hard to work on.
now I just have to tighten up a couple of bolts, install the rad, hook up the engine wiring harness inside, then fill up the fluids and fire her up to life, will hopefully be done around the end of the week as I now have a tarp up covering her incase it rains. _________________ 3 928s, |

Lookin' good Lizard! I might fly you out to motown next fall when it's time to work on mine
Are you still planning to do the letters on the cam housings in yellow? What color is the powder coat ... dark grey or black??? _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Hey Dan, I have thought it over and I am going to do the letters in red, with Red 8.5mm Aurora plug leads, and then in the future if I take the calipers off I will have them done red as well, though they are currently black, and the intake has been done wrinkle black powdercoat and it is black, it looks awsome, I have only 1 hose to the expansion tank left to install and then I will be installing the rad,
this is finally looking like I am making progress _________________ 3 928s, |

| How are 928s to work on? Can you remove the head with the engine in the car? |

The red will look great, especially if you finish it all off with the big red calipers _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

fife, the 928 is interesting to work on, you must remove everything in your way to work on what you want to or you will never get in there, there are millimeters on either side of the engine when you install it.
if you thought the 924 was hard to do electrical work on, well the 928 has about 3x as much electrics and the fusebox is HUGE. but for me the power trade off is worth it.
ideola I already have 4 pot suspension installed in the car, I would just be having to tear the calipers off and strip them and powdercoat them, but that will come later, and if you fly me out in the fall I would definetly be down for assisting you in installing the engine and getting it up and running, and meeting the east coast 924/928 community _________________ 3 928s, |

924S electroics have been easy for me to deal with but I'm an engineer. The biggest problem I've run into is not being able to get at the Allen head bolts the speed/reference sensors mount to.
Every now and then I think about the wiring layout boards people use at work and making one for a 944/924S to reproduce the factory setup. I'd need a good harness first to get the lengths and bundling down, and something tells me sourcing the connectors used throughout the car would be a real challenge. I don't know if there'd be any kind of market for remade harnesses anyway. |

| Don't powdercoat the calipers if you plan to track the car at all. Or a lot of spirited driving... Powder will melt if it reaches 400 degrees. The 928 caliper has a lot of work to do to stop all the weight. I have put a pyrometer on a 928s after playing around for a bit and they were 500 degrees... You may be okay if you get high temp but that only comes in black and silver. Otherwise use caliper paint.. both of these options are Good to 1400 degrees. |

yes, I only took 1 tiny piece of skin off and that was on the tip of my middle finger left hand, and that was doing the brake lines,
as for the powdercoating I know it is only good upto 400deg, but with you saying that they can hit 500deg then I will be going with 17" rims before I do this and having them ceramic coated instead. _________________ 3 928s, |

| Good plan, I have seen people get away with powerder coating the calipers plenty of times but it is a lot of work to strip them if they do start to peel. I want to powder coat mine because it looks so damn good but I only want to do it once. |
