Haynes says that there should be a clear passage thru this when it's cold, but how big? It only looks like about 1/8" dia hole in mine..is this correct or should the passage be bigger? Also, the resistance of the heater unit is 48 ohms, not the 30 ohms in Haynes. It seems to close OK when I connect to a 12v supply.Time to replace the unit? TIA

The size of the opening when it's "cold" is temperature dependent and it's tough to judge the opening size because of the odd shaped opening, so it's hard to say if 1/8" is right or not. If it's right, the car should start and warm-up by just turning the key, with no need to touch the throttle. Same with the electrical function - if it closes gradually, keeping the car running during warm-up, it's ok. If it's determined that it should be opened more when cold and needs replacement, there's a procedure to try, to adjust it, so you may not actually need to replace it.

I put the AAV in the fridge for 5 mins and the air passage opened right up, so I figure it's working correctly. The 1/8" hole was at about 25 deg C. Thanks Smoothie.
