Hi: Can a 1986 944 engine be installed in a 1980 931? Have a 931 with a locked up engine. Have a good 1986 944 engine. Can they be swapped? Thanks in advance. Dick.

simple answer, yes,
easily no

you will have to modify the rad support, you will have to change the cross member, and you will have to wire in the 944 ECU
